true detective s1
bloodline s1
house of cards s1
twin peaks
succession
if we are including multi-part documentaries:
the jinx
the ted bundy tapes
Some interesting suggestions without being mainstream, thanks!
for sure. true detective s1 is the must watch. bloodline s1 and house of cards s1 are top tier dramas. twin peaks has an incredible atmosphere - it's not really the plot that makes it good, it's the vibe of the show. same with succession, it's not really the story that makes it good, it's the character interactions and standalone scenes. the jinx subject matter is very interesting. ted bundy tapes is a well made documentary, you are sort of on the edge of your seat the whole time. another one that I just thought about that I haven't watched since I was a kid but remember being the best sports documentary that I'd ever watched was this one that espn did called the marinovich project. it was about this guy todd marinovich whose father basically trained him from birth to become an nfl quarterback. haven't seen it in a long time so don't know how well it holds up though.
also breaking bad and game of thrones are two of the most overrated shows ever. neither hold up to anything mentioned above.
Never seen BB (it could seem strange) but I completely agree about the GoT part
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
Friday Night Lights
The Office
Mr. Robot
Ozark
Homeland
Entourage
Futurama
Silicon Valley
The Punisher
Community
Sons Of Anarchy
Curb Your Enthusiasm
South Park
The Simpsons
+1 for friday night lights
I have seen Futurama from the first to the last episode and did not convince me very much but thank you for the other suggestions!
I think Futurama fits for the crowd that likes Neuromancer, Blade Runner, Ghost In The Shell, etc.
It skews towards SciFi, technology and some level of Cyberpunk.
Homeland falls off quite a bit in my opinion. But I like the ending a lot.
I agree that Homeland had a stronger start than the end. didn't like the later seasons.
Mr. Robot is 10/10 underrated
haha yeah Silicon Valley was sooooo funny - great cast
24 is pretty amazing considering that seasone one is 20 years old.
totally agree....the show has some uhh seasons where its OK but most of them are absolute bangers
it gets repetitive towards the very end but honestly BRAVO of a show..just incredible
Power Hour with Jack Bauer is on Prime... been binging it during the lockdowns.
Ozark
Breaking Bad
The Office
Suits
Game of Thrones
Prison Break (first season / two)
+1 for prison break
We have more than one entry in common, great choices!
yeah prison break was good
Suits
Amazing choice man, hope they did something similar but for Wall Street too!
suits was prime for the first 3 seasons then it had a slow death
really fell off when mike and rachel left though
Nathan For You
This. A thousand times this. Dude is hilarious.
Can you put me in your will?
Excuse me for my ignorance, but I have never heard about it. What's it about?
The Big Bang Theory
Edit: Fuck you to whoever gave me MS for liking what I like
Old classic Mr. Burns! I have seen some episodes like 20 times each. For real. Especially for s2-4.
Mr. Burns' show
Smithers puts it on for me before I go to bed at 5:30 PM
Miami Vice was always my favorite. Even when it slipped somewhere around Season 3, it was still pretty damn good.
Miami Vice was awesome I thought the show also went down from season 3 when they started trying to have these guys be a small military in Lat Am that said the Testarossa over the Spyder every time
Best tv show is definitely Gilligans Island
Unpopular opinion, but I really enjoy watching old episodes of Family Guy/The Simpsons/South Park. Getting absolutely railed with wfh so it's nice to just put on a random episode when I have 20 minutes to spare and not have to get invested in the story line and remember characters, plotlines, etc from prior episodes
Exactly, The Big Bang Theory was very similar for me too. I have seen some episodes for multiple times (like 20)!
If you haven't seen Curb Your Enthusiasm with my guy Larry David you haven't lived (HBO Max). It's pretty, pretty, pretty good (see what I did there).
Formula 1 series on Netflix is PHENOMENAL.
If you enjoy a mix of war and battle in a documentary light, think of watching Roman Empire or Age of Samurai on Netflix. Gave me a bump in history knowledge and was very entertaining to watch.
The Office obviously, not on Netflix anymore it's on like Peacock.
Black Mirror. Unreal.
Shameless. Hilarious.
Money Heist. If you haven't seen it and enjoy action-packed shows, you'll thank me for life. Guarantee.
Vampire Diaries (Guilty pleasure, don't tell the boys)
People Just Do Nothing. Stupid funny on Netflix, but may be an acquired taste (think Trailer Park Boys hit the U.K.)
Altered Carbon Season 1 was great, didn't love Season 2.
Last but not least, 1 movie recommendation is Swingers. Sounds weird but it's genuinely one of the greatest movies of all time that doesn't get enough credit. Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau.
I'll definitely check F1 and the Samurai one. Thank you for your suggestions!
1) BBC's Sherlock
2) Rick and Morty
3) 30 Rock
4) Breaking Bad
5) Workaholics
What's Workaholics about? Excuse me for my ignorance here!
It is a bunch of low life telemarketers who live in a house together in Rancho Cucamonga. Pretty stupid show but it makes me laugh.
Sopranos.Best series of all time.
finally, was about to lose it at the lack of Sopranos comments in here, no show comes even close to it in terms of character development and rewatchability.
Anyone watch Bosch on Amazon Prime? Pretty good crime show that has actual storylines that go across a whole season unlike the one-episode plots of criminal minds, etc.
Those type of shows are not really my type. However, do you suggest it?
Yeah I liked the noir vibes of the show and the fact that it was a slow burn each season. Not as much explosions and action, but grounded in reality with good story-telling. It's been a while since I watched it, but I remember thinking that's the most screen time I've watched a detective sit at their desk in a show period.
Kim's Convenience (Canadian tv show)
at the moment: ATTACK ON TITAN
weeaboo
100%
Big Blue Mountain State guy :)
Night of, Shameless, Black Mirror (and Love, Death, Robots), and Altered Carbon are some of my favorites. Tried to throw some titles your way that haven't been mentioned yet - lotta good shows listed above

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Fleabag
Frasier
Atlanta
Sopranos
The Wire

Giri/Haji
Breaking Bad
The Wire
The Inbetweeners

I have seen there are so many Breaking Bad entries in this post. Is it so good?
Yeah Breaking Bad is really good. I've seen it 2-3 times.
The west wing and BBC’s Sherlock
Peaky Blinders
Money heist
Big bang theory
You
How I met your mother
How is Peaky Blinders? I haven't started it yet
Fucking amazing.
HIMYM and TBBT. Amazing shows. Completely agree.
Surprised no one has mentioned Dexter - they’re restarting it with a new season this fall I believe
Dexter is pretty good. I love the cinematography.
Parks and Recreation. Everything comes after
What does this talk about?
It is funny
Thank you all for this amazing brainstorming in my post! I'll give my list too, then (about my all time personal favorite series):
I am sure I am missing something..
Lucifer is solid but I feel like in the latest season they are fucking it up. They should have ended the season before.
Probably it will be House MD and Westworld
Industry anyone? 2nd series out in Q3
The King of Queens
Two and a Half Men
I did not like The Office initially but then then i liked it
+1 for two and a half men
First season awful but then...amazing The Office
Not seeing a lot of love for Billions seasons 1 and 2. The series goes to the toilet after 3 (which is just a solid season) but I thought the first couple seasons were top tier television
it's so over the top it feels a bit ridiculous. for it to be top tier I want it to be timeless, I want to want to go back and rewatch it. from the 5 shows I listed i've rewatched the first 3 all at least once maybe even more and the other 2 I will probably rewatch at some point. no chance I rewatch billions.
For some reason, there has yet to be a really good Wall Street TV series. Seems like low-hanging fruit but no one has nailed it.
The X Files
Futurama
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
SpongeBob SquarePants
Seinfeld
Chappelle's Show
Love the Spongebob choice
Friends, Scrubs, TBBT
Cool and classic choices!
for me , my all time favorit show is Friends
nothing in my eyes could ever top it
My gf is watching it and she likes it. I have never watched it, I have to do that for sure. I have seen HIMYM, which is a "Friends 2.0" (number of characters, some similar roles) but never actually watched the original Friends. However, the intro music is pretty iconic. Evergreen show imo.
Bojack Horseman
Eastbound and Down
True Detective S1
Curb
Mad Men
South Park
Succession
Rick and Morty
Lost - I’ve probably seen it 5 times and generally like it in the background when playing poker. It’s off of Netflix now, but on Amazon Prime.
My roommate loved it. Best TV series ever for him. It's on my list for sure! Good choice
oooh YES good show
really enjoyed it
for me personally I think as the show dragged on it fell off but was really good for most of it
there are a lot of shows i like but the ONE show that still stays in my mind for being incredible is Succession
watched it over winter break and loved it and it was definitely the best show I watched in the last 5 years minimum
the beauty of the show is that its not a feel good show or comedy
its dark combined with some really good humor and its relatable and super interesting as you dive in
love it and EVERYONE should check it out
if you don't have HBO, go and pay for like a months pass because ITS worth it or see if they have it on amazon prime
Thanks, Kendall.
Boston Public.
Band of Brothers
Avatar: The Last Airbender (no cap probably the best show I watched in 2020)
Westworld
The Queen's Gambit
Sherlock
Peaky Blinders
The Mandalorian
Suits (first 3 seasons)
White Collar
Chernobyl
Some interesting titles here too imo!
I've seen White Collar, it is pretty good
There are some good recommendations. I'd like to add:
Power
Superstore (its lowkey funny)
Ted Lasso
I have never heard about them, could you sum up those titles briefly, please?
I also liked Travelers, Nikita
Oz used to be good back in the day....
if you're looking for a new show to watch on netflix, try Mind Hunter. Created by David Fincher
(just be aware there are only two seasons, unfortunately)
Surprised no one's mentioned Archer yet
Million Dollar Listing NY
I love watching these guys close 24/7.
Veep is my favorite by a good shot - there were so many incredible one liners throughout.
I think The Circus and True Detective Season 3 are a couple other great ones that I haven't seen mentioned yet.
- Rome
- The Sopranos
- The Wire
- Game of Thrones (excluding the last 2 seasons)
- Oz
- Top Gear (BBC w/ Clarkson et al.)
- Breaking Bad
- Band of Brothers
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- The Office (U.S.)
- True Detective (Season 1)
- World War II in Colour
- Twin Peaks (original series)
- Formula 1 Drive to Survive
- Peep Show
- Monty Python's Flying Circus
Narcos was good too
