Finding someone in IB

Okay, before anyone gets on me about this question I just want to preface that I’ve been in quarantine A LONG TIME. So you work long hours in IB and there’s been numerous studies that you tend to fall in love or like the people who are closest to you or who you spend the most time with right? So do you see a lot of IB relationships especially internally? I know a lot bankers friends tend to be bankers. Idk I’m basing it off the proximity thing.

None really that I've heard of. The temptation is definitely there, but I think the majority of bankers are too smart to have office relationships. Maybe lowkey hookups. That would be utter hell if you dated someone you work 80+ hours a week with and split up. Go to the bar down the street from your office instead. Also I think it's a general rule to avoid relationships in your analyst years if possible.

I’ve heard that some banks, like Baird, have a lot more of those. You’ll find couples all over. Not sure as much about banks on the coasts.

I've gotten close to some guys I've worked with in my time in IB. Can tell they are flirting with me at times and things get a little weird after midnight for sure at times as some of the guys and even the girls make some inappropriate jokes.

Best thing though is if you're going to do it, then just a hook up but NOTHING more. Don't get into a relationship or everyone will find out very very soon and you will be the talk of the office.

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

Everybody hits on everybody. It's oh so delightful. Who said I'm a guy?

Also, my wifi connection to this website sucks. MIght accelerate my leaving this website for good.

Lol....income is not the sole feature of a power couple, just to let you know. As IB analysts, you two have very little power. A power couple is like Bill and Melinda Gates or the Zuckerberg couple. Nobody gives a fuck about two IB analysts dating each other. Lmao

Sure. Robert Greene the definition of power as the influence over other people, I could’ve rephrased that. Yet there are few combined mid six figure salaries at that age. We already make the top 1% when the rest of the families out there are making 55k on average. But let’s not meander from the topic at hand. It may not be a common thing in our industry yet most people are focused on the salary when going into IB. Just making a remark on what could be pertinent to someone thinking about the topic. Looks and personality are dating categories and I wouldn’t say it is far fetched to say profession isn’t a point of interest when evaluating a partner. To all their own

I would even go further and say don't even bother with your colleagues. Don't shit where you eat - the Street is small, not worth it even if you think have "chemistry" with a fellow analyst you typically burn the midnight oil with. If you remember last summer's super cringe resume that got forwarded to like 30-ish banks, don't think that you're little hook up sesh won't travel just as quickly. Just my 2 cents. Stick to the artsy girls below Flatiron and you'll be alright ;)

Ah yes, I meant to reply to Richard.3, but I'll take the time to respond to your point...

When I was still there, it was common for flirting (high stress environment, going crazy at the bar to de-stress, etc.), but very rarely if ever did I hear anything grew to a full blown relationship. Secret hookups, yes, but it was mostly out of convenience - they never lasted. Im sure one of the staffers knew but kept his mouth shut on it lol

Yeah, you should leave the humor to me, my guy![not funny]https://media1.giphy.com/media/M7t5GIszd4Nc4/giphy.gif" alt="not fu" />

If you're asking this, there must be a cutie at work that you are crushing hard on. Chances are she's not that into you and she's likely smart enough to realize it's not a good idea.
This isn't high school where everyone dates everyone stuck in the same bubble.
Extreme example but had a co-worker meet his 1st wife at work and after they split they still had to see each other at work every day on the same floor...for years. Everyone just thinks, "What a poor bastard..."
Work gfs/wives are fine but don't cross that line. If you get tempted, hit the bars/networking events up (when the lockdown is lifted) or go rub it out.

Don't do the last thing you suggestd with someone in the office. Not a good look, my guy.
