Really thought at first glance that this was some sort of elite division of GS with a cool name, like BX Tactical Opportunities or DEVGRU.

Mindy Kaling's brother did that a few years back.

...how about just hiring the people that are able, qualified and willing? Regardless of any other factors that have nothing to do with those 3 qualities? What happened to that?

Yet, some people still wonder why a growing number of people think affirmative action is racist.

More discrimination against Caucasians. Programs like this are one reason why, amongst the masses of degenerates, Trump has a significant number of intelligent supporters: People are sick of reverse racism and the erosion of meritocracy.

Lmao, "erosion of meritocracy". Where did you read that? I like children's books too, especially the ones with pictures.

The Native Americans got screwed by Liz Warren. So all the cool kids are ignoring them for the time being.

Better the Black Analyst Program than the White Analyst Program. The latter would just start a war.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Affirmative action is inherently racist because it imposes different admission and hiring standards for different ethnic groups.

It's fine to want to hire more blacks, but it should be done so as part of the normal recruiting process and not lead to a sacrifice in caliber of the talent.

Lot of blacks at elite schools and firms complain that others assume that they are there because of affirmative action. Well, if we didn't have racial preferences, this wouldn't be an issue. When I meet a black person who went to Harvard undergrad, for instance, my first thought is he got in through affirmative action. When I meet an Asian person who went to Harvard undergrad, I assume he's brilliant and was a total rock star in high school given how difficult it is for Asians to get in. I know a lot of white liberals who think this as well but would never say so publicly.

"Shaun-Mullins" I'll submit a res when there is a fat analyst program.

interesting

I always think that these types of 'initiatives' are disingenuous and probably irritating to minorities who happen to be IB analysts/associates.

If you see lack of diversity as an issue and want to solve it, you should probably start at underprivileged communities that barely have education infrastructure. Once you're applying to IBD at GS, you're probably not stunted by the same things as poor minorities in America. What's the difference between hiring a white econ major from Harvard versus a black math major from Yale? I don't think you're fixing anything.

"la_flameIB" Lol Black Analyst, GS is gonna take some heat for this without a doubt.

On a more serious note - diversity recruiting should be helping the kids who grew up around the poverty line regardless of their skin. Poorer students don't have the resources to go take prep classes, go to better schools, etc compared to the typical upper-middle class candidates. If they can match up to the competition despite everything going against them I am all for socio-economic based affirmative action.

Correct. If we have affirmative action, it should be based on socio-economics, not race. As the system works now, wealthy Black Americans and non-American blacks such as Nigerians, Jamaicans, etc., benefit from affirmative action. Most blacks at elite schools come from upper middle-class backgrounds; very few are from truly disadvantaged backgrounds. The system is racist and deeply flawed.

@matrick so you just made an innocent tread asking if a black only diversity program is racist?

You had no idea that the thread would illicit many strong opinions ,inflammatory and racist responses and insensitive comments?

Please say yes because that means you're an oblivious fool.

I guess if I went into student doctors network forum and said hey guys I'm a black urm with a 3.2 from Rutgers and a 24 MCAT will I be accepted, then I'd be as clever as you.

No, that was exactly the point: to make a thread about sth that is obviously racist and that anyone can see is racist just by the sole name the program has. I think everyone who posted so far understood this except for you obviously.
