Highest paid jobs/industries in STEM and in Non-STEM?
So generally you can split jobs into STEM and Non-STEM since these both encompass thousands of jobs I was wondering what industries pay the highest in each. I've made an incomplete list of the different industries/roles that pay well in each category and I was wondering if anyone has anything to add.
Non-STEM: finance, business, accounting, law, sales, and nursing.
STEM: tech, O&G, engineering, data science, actuarial science, and medicine.
Are there any other industries/roles I've missed that could pay really well?
Non-STEM: Real estate may be under business/ finance. Lobby work/ Politics can be included. I have a friend who recently graduated and works as a lobbyist and makes really good money. Top guys pull in similar pay to Big Law Partners. Entertainment Management (talent agent, sports agent, packaging agent) may be lumped under business and sales, but thought I would throw that out there. There is also the "one-off" type roles that pay big: being an athlete, musician, someone involved in film, actor/actress, that type of stuff. STEM: Construction Management is a subset of Engineering that is often overlooked. Pay is pretty much on par with Accounting from my experience. I know you included medicine but I heard from a Medical Sales Exec that people in the IVF industry make a stupid amount of money and can often work 40-45 hours per week (like $500k-2MM+).

When you say real estate, do you mean real estate agents or what?
Real estate is a big field, and I liken this analogy to the medical field. When most people think of medicine, they think of primary care physicians. Much like when people think of Real Estate, they think of their local Realtor.
But in Medicine theres a ton of jobs (OBGYNs, anesthesiologists, cardiac surgeons.. you get the point). In real estate theres a ton of jobs as well.
To name a few: Commercial broker, financial analyst/ associate, debt analyst/ associate, development analyst/ associate, architects, entitlement consultants, debt placement broker, CMBS/RMBS underwriter, GSE underwriter, your local Realtor.. the list can go on.
You've covered all but you've generalised too much for STEM. Within engineering you have chemical engineering which pays much less than Aerospace. Within medicine you have neurosurgery vs radiology.
But most if not all forms of engineering and medicine could lead to high salaries which is why I lumped them together.
I didn't split up finance into IB, AM, Corp fin or law into corporate, civil, divorce, tax, etc.
But its key to make salary appropriate comparisons. In civil engineering unless you're in the top 10 of the top 5 engineering consulting firms or own your construction firm you won't be seeing too much money.
