You compete with Asians by not conceding your inadequacies to them.
Sure, plenty of Asians get top offers, but it's not like they're getting jobs BECAUSE of their ethnicity (if anything, it's IN SPTE OF the fact that they're Asian). Many of them get the job because they work hard, busted ass in HS to go to a top school, approach recruiting strategically, etc. None of those factors are exclusive to the Asian race though.
Just play the same game, if you don't make it, it's not because you're white or whatever... it's because you actually ARE inadequate, independent of race.
Besides, non-Asians have historically done quite well in the US. Don't trip.

The more I read about her the better I feel about myself. With all those accomplishments, awards, scholarships, she is still nothing more than a CEO of a soon to fail start-up. The last four years of college have taught me that being amazing at school takes hard work, but being amazing in life, being an excellent entrepreneur, author, scientist and innovator takes serious creativity. I am not intimidated by her resume.
I am not cocky, I am confident, and when you tell me I am the best it is a compliment.

Jan and Kevin are more impressive, but not from the purely-academic standpoint.
I would say Michael Scotts is argueably much better. If he put a bullet point for every time he got out of getting fired for a racist, sexist, or just down right crude comment he could fill a small book.

I met Joyce Meng at Oxford and I have to say she is actually a pretty nice person. She is not a closet case or socially retarded which was a pleasant surprise.
I just have to wonder what she is planning. I am almost skeptical of her doing a start-up;a fledgling non-profit is pretty much the opposite of everything she has done up to this point.

Alot of this is bullshit and so fundamentally self-depreciating. I'm not white but I'm not asian and I (and many other non-asians I go to school with and am close too) have the same if not better marks, along with the same if not better internship/EC qualifications (as the "wunderkid asians" you describe, not Joyce Meng :P).
I have great respect for Chinese/Taiwanese/Korean people and their culture, but the whole "we can't compete" spiel has been pissing me off for a while, it's an excuse for white kids to avoid their work ethic and stagnate while all the while denying one's own ability.

The reality is Asians do tend to set the curve at allot of schools and other people suffer because of it. They are willing to make the sacrifices needed to do the best, most caucasians are not.

I'm in this camp. No one on their deathbed ever looks up and says, 'I WISH I MADE MORE MONEY!' As long as I make enough to live well [and a little extra] I'm a happy camper.
People forget that this woman is just one out of a BILLION Chinese.....the rest of that nation is not in such good shape. Would it be fair to compare her to any one of a hundred other partners at Goldman?

Because it feels great to them. Why do people go to the gym and work out? It feels great to them.
Whatever brings you self satisfaction, you will have a drive for. If you truly wanted to be better than the people that are achieving more than you at a current point in time, the success from small steps along the way would be a certain euphoria that would push you to keep achieving.
That being said, I in no way, shape, or form have close to a 4.0. I've felt better in many circumstances from hanging out with my friends and enjoying my free time in ways that differ from purely just studying. And if one can say she does not purely study, and its cruel to bash her since shes a nice person and has friends, I say she's networking, rather than creating friends. If she has gotten to this point in her life where she has made so many companies and taken so many internships, she must view every relationship as a way to network, rather than a person to have fun with or a person to share a lasting, fulfilling relationship with.
And that would suck big black dick, not small asian dick.
Ditto on dominate. Yes, dominate. Confident, cool, calm, collected. Bright is just another of the many cool traits. She's got only one...bright. I've got quite a few more.

Why China still 'developing' nation?
Ok, that's offensive - honestly, until this century China was a third world nation once you stepped about a mile outside of any major city. China has a lot going for it, and their culture is pretty cool, but I don't buy into the pretentious bullshit that China is superior to us. We can learn from them, but as far as strict overacheiving parents to compare her to, you have no farther to look than the current president and his wife......who, by the way, are American.

Story about China...a country which has so much money that they buy their military aircraft from Russian. Meaning these are some sick planes. They buy the planes and take them apart to learn the technology. Their factories produce the metallic parts to industry specifications. Their workers carefully place the parts together. Then the brave go forth and fly these replicas. Once they take of, the planes burn and crash. Why? The metal is the same, the parts smell the same, heck even tires are the same. But, you can't just replicate an engine.
You shouldn't copy someones study habits or even working habits. Be happy with what you have, say a $50M jet, and don't try to copy it.

4. top honors, so he's distinguished
5. extracurriculars: speech/debate

hey, asians have personalities too. well actually, some of us do, the rest of us not so much.
No offense intended
of course you do! but i've noticed a lot of you tap out early in the night...
Joyce Meng is a beast. She makes my penis hurt.
I don't compete, I dominate.
Thats the spirt, most Asians are terrified of getting tea-bagged.
She isn't afraid to get teabaged.
You dominate Joyce?
I know I do. Look at that chick. I own her...
Yea! Got videos lets start bid 100 usd!!!!
Sorry, didn't read the OP correctly he said Joyce Meng not Joyce Myers

dudes, her resume is soo big that she had to create a website for it...that's Goldman material right there!
Ain't got nothing on Jan Sramek. And he's a white dude.
Race isn't an issue.
and he's slavic... which is awesome.
Asians that arent westernised from early on are so painfully boring, unimaginative, no humour...
oh and one thing that relates to race... I don't trust people that don't drink or can't hold their booze... so most asians

many are socially awkward so having a good personality helps. After all it is the C students that you gotta watch out for ;)
The key factors have nothing to to with race. Can you do the job?
I just have to wonder what she is planning. I am almost skeptical of her doing a start-up;a fledgling non-profit is pretty much the opposite of everything she has done up to this point.
Impressive
Nail on the head...passion and creativity. Joyce can spread financials, you can pitch clients, innovate ideas, woo investors and raise capital, and possess balance and passion. This is how we compete:

If I'm not mistaken she chose Wharton over Harvard. (She got into both.)
I've noticed that Asians who are no smarter than I am, proven by test scores, get a hell of a lot more done.
Larger penis.
Ahem.
I know I'm not going to waste as much time as she did on charity projects.
the OP reeks of sarcasm but it seems like a lot of people in this thread actually have these insecurities, so let me put it this way:
how do you think underrepresented minorities feel about this process? women?
just bust your ass and don't worry about it. you think finance is tough? try computer science / medicine. asians galore
The progression in all professional fields has been
WASP: awareness of academics Jews: focus on academics Asians: devotion to academics
How to compete with an Asian student, when it comes to test times you should suddenly stand up and point out the window in the direction of the ocean and scream GODZILLA!

my Asian friends at Wharton go out and get drunk 3 nights a week. They don't give a shit and have no clue about WSO. And they all have offers.
so you're saying they take a sniff of whisky 3 nights a week
it's Penn. they're all frat stars

Also, Nanotech, Jews are now considered white by college admissions officers.

you boys [asians] go out and make the money [at your job], and i'll [my white ass will] show your wives [asians women] a good time [with my dick] on your dime [she can pay for dinner]
Been working with a lot of Asians during my IB years and I have to say that I was pretty impressed by their overall productivity and dedication... Kind of scary if you ask me!
But I got invited last year to a korean sauna so I said "hey you never know, could be cool"... oh boy... Everyone got naked... moment of TRUTH... Boy, I felt like I was a real "stallion" at the pool! I guess you never can't have it all!
Its easy, im tall, handsome and charming. How many asians can say that? Not many. While they may accel in academia, I have attributes that can be put to better use. Im sure that my professional performance will easily trump theirs. I have the complete package
You won't be "acceling" at any spelling bees, that's for sure.
