How many of you are Eagle Scouts?
Saw it pop up on another thread recently, and was curious. How many of you are Eagles? What was your project, if you are? Any stories to share?

I made Life. I was a bit screwed over on Eagle because they introduced new merit badges that required 6+ months lead time (I think it was Family Life or something like that?) so I aged out before I could finish.
How many knots can you tie
So many one handed bowlines and taut-line hitches for those tent stakes. Sheep's Bend got me though. But for the topic, got Life and then...real life and puberty happened. Only had one merit badge and service project left at 15. Buddy of mine got Eagle literally 24 hours before his 18th birthday (for those that don't know, that's when the cutoff is. Or high school graduation).
You only really need a few. Bowline, taught line, square, maybe 1 or 2 others but those will get you through most things.
Suffered thorough Boy Scouts and got Eagle thinking that it would be something that helped me for the rest of my life. It may have helped me get into college, but not a single person asked about it or cared during IB recruiting or on-cycle. Hate to say it, but Boy Scouts will be dead within the next 15-20 years
I became and Eagle Scout shortly after turning 16. My project was building a few benches for my school. I noticed a bunch of students having to sit on the concrete or grass while waiting for their parents to pick them up after school.
I’ve only had one employer bring it up in an interview. I do think it adds credibility to a candidate.
I honestly wouldn’t have finished scouts if it wasn’t for about 5 close friends that did it with me in my age group. We had a lot of great guys in our troop and many dedicated parents (especially dads who donated a ton of their time). Some of my best high school memories and friendships were made on those weekend trips and camp outs. Sports and Scouts definitely furthered me.
The BSA or I believe it is just called “Scouts” now, is in absolute shambles now that they’ve gone woke. They’ve screwed themselves by adding women (probably to increase revenue), which is a big “F-You” to the Girl Scouts of America.
I think the mole infestation (I leave it to you to pick up on the euphemism) was the biggest problem at first. Women in Scouts isn't new. Venture and Explorers, the groups after Scouts, always had women. Had plenty of women counselors at Philmont from their ranks almost twenty years ago for instance.
Right. I think they added women to try to raise revenue because of the lawsuits. Women in the ranks 20 years ago? I did not know that. I skipped out on Philmont - I wasn’t huge on hiking. Everyone raved about it though. I might regret it a tiny bit.
Philmont was great but Northern Tier was truly next level. Literally completely alone in the Canadian boundary waters for 3 weeks, didn't see another soul for the entire time. Incredible nature, maximum physical exertion, and 12 hours per day on the water is hard to beat.
I'm an Eagle Scout, project was building bird boxes and hanging them in local parks. Scouts taught me so much about leadership and discipline and it definitely has come up in interviews before.
Back in the 1990s when my dad was interviewing for his first job, at the end of the interview the guy said "It was great getting to know you, I'm off to pick up my son from his scout meeting." My dad commented that he got eagle when he was a kid; upon saying that, the interviewer immediately gave him the job.
I’m an Eagle Scout. Project was building a trailhead signboard in my town, has a nice roof and some info boards in cases and whatnot
I'm an Eagle Scout. Most of the friend group I had within our troop also reached Eagle. It furthered my love of the outdoors and did provide some degree of leadership skills going into college. But I do feel like the title of Eagle Scout holds a lot less meaning/weight than it used to.
As for my project, I built a regulation size beach volleyball court at the elementary school I had gone to, and that my sister was currently attending. I raised a ton for it and donated ~50% of the raised funds to the school, since I was pretty cost effective in the materials and construction of the court.
I was the defacto fire guy/master for all the beer Olympics events and camping trips my fraternity had in undergad, so that was s cool use my skills at least.
