How much to mount TV and tip?

Just bought a 65" TV and a mount. Not sure how much it costs to hire someone, but not too worried about that. I'm just not sure how much to tip? I usually over-tip movers. Should I just slide him a crisp benjamin?

Not sure if this is a troll post or for real.  But mounting a tv should take ~10-15 minutes:

  • Use a stud finder to find the studs where you want to hang the tv, and put some light pencil marks in the center of each stud at the height you want to mount the tv - if your mount only requires one stud, only pencil the one stud
  • Drill pilot holes on pencil markings
  • screw in the mount to the wall with a screw driver, then use a socket wrench to tighten
  • screw the other half of the mount to the tv
  • hang the tv mounts onto the wall mounts.
  • vacuum your area as there is likely some dry wall dust from the drilling
  • Modern TVs are so light this is a one person job unless you have some sort of disability / are generally frail

Good luck

Yeah bro I'm not doing all of that and this 65" TV box is huge.

At 65" the total price outside the hardware itself should be to hand your friend a case of good beer.

PLEASE think about  water and electrical when you're doing this though.  I've got a NYC apartment and when putting in the bedroom 55" on a safe wall I found out just how thin those walls really were, and had to get a couple suits in the closet behind it dry cleaned as a result of the plaster dust from going through.

I've thought about doing similar with the living room 85, but beyond that being a 100lb beast, and me having to think much more about wall construction and integrity, it would go on a wall shared with the apartment next door, and that seemed like a REALLY bad way to potentially meet the neighbor.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

As you've seen others have had issues. We hung our 77-inch thin TV, and it was still crazy stressful. It took bolts and time.  I'm with you now that I'm not in my 30s, I'd say pay someone. Depends on if you trust a TaskRabbit or person or find a professional service. I think we paid $350 for the last one, and another 250 for them to run the wires inside and hide them. Then tipped each guy $ 60 bucks,  didn't realize three were showing up thought it was two. We used a professional service through a local home theatre company.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it doesn't look like rocket science, but I just don't like doing that stuff anymore. I just moved too so my tools are in a box somewhere unknown. My best friend offered to help, but I really don't want to DIY this. I trust the guys who do this stuff every day. $60 bucks each sounds reasonable on $350. I'll have to get some $20s, all I have is hundreds from poker.

Damn an extra $250 to run wires. I'll have to think about that. Not sure if that breaks my rental agreement but they'll never know until I move out.

Also, I don't think it's a troll post, tipping has gotten so ambiguous and crazy. Like, what do you tip your barber now? My cut is $65 bucks, I tip $20, then $35 around the holidays, and $10 to the washer girl. He does not own the barbershop.  Moved buildings and now the staff is 13 people and we continued to tip $75 per person at the holidays and made a goodie back of holiday cookies and Christmas brittle.  They seemed like no one tipped them,  which was not how I was brought up.

Yeah tipping is out of control now. The thing that rubs me the wrong way is when I tip well to someone in the service industry, like really well, and they don't even have the common courtesy to say thank you.
