How to develop a KILLER reputation?

Incoming analyst at a top RX shop.

One of the biggest takeaways I had from this summer is that reputation REALLY matters.

Career wise, it's a small industry, sure. But I noticed the top bucket killer analysts get to set the standards.

Wanna go on vacation? Go for it. No one will ask any questions. Have a friend's wedding? Great, no need to work on the flight. Enjoy the trip.

Senior people value your opinions and try to mentor you vs. just ramming you with work. This is pretty much why I want to have a good rep lol - im willing to work my ass off if it means im going to be treated with respect and as a colleague, not a subordinate.

As an intern, I feel like a did a pretty good job, but we were never given enough responsibility to really develop that kind of reputation. I know it's early, but what can you do as a 1st year (especially considering you know NOTHING) to set yourself apart.

Grind your ass off the other 51 weeks of the year + don't take any other time off, you'll eventually be told to enjoy your single 5 day vacation.

No brand new analyst is treated as an equal to someone tenured, you have to put the time in. Being a top bucket analyst isn't necessarily worth it though, you'll get railed way more than others on hours/workload for a slightly higher bonus post-tax and the "respect" of your coworkers, whatever that means to you.

Don't be a cuck. This is easier if u are either incredibly intelligent (like genuinely creative/smart, not just someone with a high pain tolerance who grinded to get into ivy/IB... often, they are negatively correlated) or independently wealthy so can tell people to F off without worrying.

But since u are asking this u probably don't have "killer" mentality.
