IBS in finance (not a joke)

I have irritable bowel syndrome and I get quite severe stomach pain on a regular basis.

For those of you who have IBS as well, how do you cope with flare ups in the office?

I know this seems like a shitpost (lol) but genuine advice wanted

Do you know your triggers? Your best bet is always going to be avoiding complications to the extent possible. Need to know your triggers, avoid heavy drinking / hard stuff on weekends, etc.

I have IBD and just finished my stint in a sweaty group - it's rough. Make sure your staffer and HR are aware and control what you can / make good decisions. Also do your best to be a top bucket analyst when you aren't sick / having symptoms so that when you're at 50% productivity ppl give you leeway.

If you have to shit, go take a shit.

This isn't elementary school. You don't need a hall pass.

More shits on company time can only be seen as a net positive

  1. Control your diet. Figure out your triggers and AVOID THEM. Do not "limit them" just avoid them. Doing this, has pretty much solved 75% of my problems - I had to cut out a lot, including even pasta for the most part. This includes on the weekends. IBS symptoms can show up 1-2 days later. Download the Monash app if you need to understand better what foods can trigger IBS.
  2. As well as your diet, understand how to strategically limit gas. E.g. eating smaller portions. Eating slower. Eating certain food items first before others. Figuring out times of the day you're most sensitive and working around that.
  3. Don't hold in shits or farts, just go and shit/ fart. If you hold it in, the stress and gas just compounds making things worse.
  4. Drink lots of water but limit water during meals.
  5. Avoid stress. I know that's gonna be tough in this job but it's a major contributor to symptoms. Even latent stress.
  6. If beer/alcohol is a trigger for you, good luck.

Can't think of much else. God speed.

I have this but what I eat can manage the symptoms a lot. Plan out your meals. If I don't eat gluten/cheese/some types of carbs(like certain breads) I can skip the worst of it.

do a high fat carnivore diet. zero plant matter, no coffee, no vegetables/fruit. nothing but 75/25 burgers and ribeyes. Your IBS will be permanently cured after a 1-2 month adaptation period. Speaking from experience. also not joking.
