Investment banking for crime syndicates
After watching “The Gentleman” (great movie by the way, but Layer Cake was better), I am curious about how large criminal organizations are advised on deals? I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a lot of deal activity between large crime orgs. and smaller counterparts, so this begs the question... Who is running advisory on these deals? Do they have a team of finance professionals working for them? Do large banks do some sketchy dealings? (That would be my guess). Anyways, I’m curious to hear any insights/opinions on the matter
Good movie. I think "hostile takeovers" are the most common. Criminal organizations generally have strong activism and defense teams to perform or stop hostile takeovers, this often results in high employee turnover due to deaths.
Yes, when posing this question I forgot to account for the fact that they are criminals and have the luxury of doing business by force
Dear god, just watch Narcos/Narcos Mexico/El Chapo if you want to know how cartels are run, not Guy Ritchie's highly-dramatic movies
Too many movies to list here, I mean there are literally imdb keywords for this.
They have the same advisors as anybody else, some "industry specialists" and their family members may also attend top tier schools in the US and gain industry experience before joining the family business.
Would recommend the "Dirty Money" episode on HSBC laundering money for Sinaloa Cartel and the Taliban (Netflix). I know this is laundering but IMO it's not far-fetched to assume they were also advising deals.
Sounds interesting, I’ll check it out
They hire this guy:

Anyone know which campuses Sinaloa and N'drangheta recruit from?
Targets only
they don't need advisory. even legal businesses around the world don't use advisory as much. advisory honestly is a huge waste of money. it's mainly bloated American companies who hire advisors cause it's not their money and executives don't mind wasting some of the shareholders' money on bullshit slides and for the sense of self-importance.
Can any cartel alums shed some light on potential exit opps? Have an offer from a top tier drug cartel (think Sinaloa/MS-13/Reagan administration), don't want to get pigeonholed though
