Ironman Training
I realize that it's difficult to do given my current profession, but I'd like to train for--and complete--an ironman. I've done a half before (in college) and know HOW to train for the full, but I've encountered a bit of a roadblock. The biking and running are easy enough to train for. New York is relatively flat so I miss out on hill training, but I'm ok with that. I've encountered a problem, however, in finding an adequate pool to train in. Does anyone know of any decently-sized lap pools in the midtown east area (prefer something near the office)?
Note: I know I'm not going to go into the race and finish with an impressive time. My personal goal is sub-12, but ultimately am happy as long as I finish without ever stopping to rest (apart from getting in some food/water or bathroom breaks).
Some I know used to have an MD who would run up and down the stairwells to keep in shape.......
Nothing's more pleasant than sweating at work...
Yea cuz that's the most athletic thing MDs ever do
Sub-12 would be a momentus accomplishment dude... Maybe you could talk with this guy...

he did it cold turkey more or less and finished in 15:30...
In terms of a solid lap pool I don't think I can help you out...
I posted in that thread and have the utmost respect for what the guy accomplished. It's a testament to his athletic prowess and, more than anything, extreme determination. However, you have to keep in mind that he barely did ANYTHING to prepare. Given his athleticism / drive, he could improve his time by a few HOURS with the proper training and equipment (his bike, for example, sucked--and trust me, it makes quite a different after a few hours on it). Completing an ironman in and of itself is commendable, but he could do significantly better if he put his mind to it.
Holy shit, I hadn't heard this story before... truly inspirational
I thought you guys had a couple rivers around that island up there??
Regards
The only people in those rivers are the ones that had a disagreement with the "sanitation workers'" union.
