Is biden less likely to step down?

We all know what happened on Sat, does this make Biden less likely to step down? I imagine the Dems would want to preserve a sense of unity / law and order (which no other candidate like Harris or Newsom can do given unpopularity) so this cements Biden's position. Perhaps others disagree though, we'll know in 1.5 months or so I guess

The shooting has changed the news cycle, but that was going to change anyways with the RNC starting this week.  I know that the Democrats have been polling its donors (including me) heavily, asking if we would support Biden and recently would we support Harris for president.  I still think the Democrats have another week to dilly dally in public and then the clock really starts ticking.

I still think they will change candidates.

If there is an open convention, Newsom will probably not run, since Harris will run (he said he won’t run against her and 2024 is not his year anyways).

He's not going to step down. He either has a health-related accident or they force him out with something like the 25th Amendment, but he's been clear he's not going to initiate a change in the ticket.

Also,

What country are you talking about? Because it certainly isn't this one.

Looks like I might've been wrong. All the top Dems are talking about how he needs to step down, he's getting murdered in the polls in almost every swing state after the botched assassination attempt, just got hit with the Covid excuse, and he admitted he would step down if a doctor told him to. What's hilarious is a lot of Dems won't even bat an eye at the fact they were once again straight up denied a legitimate primary voting experience and will for the 3rd election in a row have their candidate chosen for them by the establishment.

Makes it very unlikely at this point that Biden is replaced, mainly because it's hard to imagine a superior Dem candidate being willing to step up to the nomination against long odds at victory. This is likely shaking up to be a 1968 election for the Dems--sometimes you just have to accept your fate and prep for the next one. Similar story for the GOP in 2008 and 1996--fait accompli, given the candidates and the circumstances.

I don't know what will happen, but Biden shouldn't step down. Biden is quite literally the only Democrat who can beat Donald. There have been a tremendous number of good things that the Biden and Obama administrations have done. One of the things they have fundamentally failed at is preparing the next generation.

Regardless of the nominee, the Democrats should be pushing hard for using the shooting as THE message, after an appropriate amount of time has passed. Donald is so dangerous that even Republicans are trying to kill him. That Donald can't even keep his MAGA cult safe. That the country should be coming together which means Donald can't be the President because he is so divisive that even his own party is trying to kill him and getting innocent people caught in the crossfire.

If they run with that message it will be the end of their party.  You think I am kidding?  Go do some polling of people.  There have already been some pretty prominent progressive personalities on twitter who have been running with similar ideas and they have been getting absolutely destroyed by their OWN people.  To do anything with this other than try and turn down the temp is going to backfire.  The only difference I feel is that this is not a backfire that you just stop talking about for a week and it goes away.

Also just saying that proves you don't know shit about how the primary process works in PA.

(1) "Go do some polling of people."

You are talking to someone who literally moonlights on the analytics team for political campaigns. I may be one of the worst people on this site to say that to.

(2) "There have already been some pretty prominent progressive personalities on twitter who have been running with similar ideas and they have been getting absolutely destroyed by their OWN people."

Correct. Because, right now, that is not the correct thing to do. You understand the temporal element of what I said, correct?

(3) "Also just saying that proves you don't know shit about how the primary process works in PA."

Ahh yes. The standard cope from someone who doesn't like the fact that it was a Republican that tried to kill Donald. There are valid arguments against what I said, but this is not one of them. Please at least try to make valid arguments. God knows you won't be able to make a better argument so please just make valid ones.

It doesn't matter if he steps down now.  There is only 1 "candidate" left on the Democrat side.  No one with 2 functioning brain cells would want to challenge Trump now.  None of the other hopefuls for the Democrats post debate pre Saturday will do this now.  Why would you ruin your career when you can just wait for 2028.

Donald Trump getting shot in the ear has absolutely no relevancy toward Biden stepping down as the presidential nominee.

I agree, but the image of him with his fist raised conveys relative strength compared to Biden's lackluster debate performance. However, I think that the shooting will not have a major impact on the results of the election because the Trump supporters are already a highly politically mobilized segment of the population, so this won't cause many people to rush to the polls to support him. The optics of Trump as a strong leader may improve, but it won't cause many more people to rush to the polls for him. If the same thing were to have happened to Biden, and Biden responded like Trump did, it would give voters on the fence reassurance that he is strong enough to represent our country for another 4 years. I do not believe that moderates and moderate liberals are going to turn out for the election in the same way that Trump supporters will, but if Biden were to survive an assassination attempt, it would be a major catalyst that could boost voter turnout for him.

I’ve been predicting Whitmer-Booker ticket, but Mark Kelly (age 60, Arizona senator, Iraq War fighter pilot, Astronaut/space shuttle commander, wife got shot in political violence, border state), is someone who excites me and is at the prime regal age (60).

I could imagine Kelly negotiating with our adversaries while pushing us forward technologically including something that interests JD Vance which is a strategic minerals reserve.  There’s some good ideas there.

Whitmer (age 52) as VP, helps with Midwest and women’s issues especially.  She looks put together.  I think she could be President, question if the Dems want to risk electing the first woman President at this juncture.  Plus in 8 years she will be at the prime regal age (60).

Kelly is bald.  But so was Dwight Eisenhower, but that was a long time ago.

Biden’s campaign is approaching its end.

Top contenders:

Gretchen Whitmer

Josh Shapiro (locks down Pennsylvania, seems like a smart technocrat)

Wes Moore (Maryland, very impressive combat military service, good talker like Obama, but nobody is like Obama)

Mark Kelly

And I’ll add Kamala Harris because she’s the VP

This is ridiculous. So Democrats don't like the polls so now they get to turn around and have party insiders just select a candidate? It's a total bastardization of the system. Y'all will win by any means necessary--lawfare, censorship, changing election laws, and now just ignoring the results of the primary because your candidate is 2 points behind in the national polls with 3 1/2 months to go.

I was going to post on here prior to the Debate my belief that Biden was going to outperform.  I’m glad I didn’t.  Clearly a non-public but now public disclosure of the mental condition of Biden has flipped the Democratic’s view of him serving 4.5 more years.  The Dem leaders are going to say they want him out because they don’t think he can win (but not jeopardize his standing as the current president). But everyone knows it’s because of his health.

I put the probability of a Whitmer-Booker ticket at close to 0.   It is too late in game for these people.

Dont think Whitmer has the crossover appeal Dems believe she does, and her mishandling of covid still has a bad taste in many voters mouths. But most of all they arent taking Kamala off ticket and they would in no world suggest a Whitmer/Kamala ticket. Whitmer likely sits out this cycle like much of the dems top of the bench

I also believe Trumps positioning is much weaker than people on the right suspect. If Dems can put someone competent then moderates will break that way. Biden is not competent, and is the only reason Trump has a lead
