Jeremy Lin. Match or not?

Crazy off-season even prior to this development. As a Knicks fan, I've had a vested interest in where all the major chips fall to, and now that pretty much all the major ones that are being moved have been, now it comes to retaining your own free agents.

And the biggest one left is Jeremy Lin. Everyone knows his background, but the question is would you, the hypothetical Knicks owner, match the Rockets' offer?

Personally, I think letting him go would be one of the stupidest moves the Knicks have ever made. Not only is he a cash cow, but he's light years ahead of Ray Felton right now. Gotta love the Knicks, they really make you question why you give a shit.

Thoughts?

so this is my first time posting on any kind of forum/blog type thing whatsoever...in any case... personally wouldn't match the offer sheet. i like jeremy lin; he's quick, can handle it (if not pressured relentlessly like he was against miami) and can shoot a bit. BUT, truth is lin had an incredible 25-26 game run last year pre-injury. 25-26 GAMES. that's it! lol. houston's definitely taking a chance and hopefully lin will get minutes and prove he's worth all that $$$.

Regardless of his production, the guy sells tickets. If Knicks don't match they are complete dumbasses

How so? They will be handcuffed in 2 years and will have zero flexibility.

Lin had 2 great weeks, who knows what will happen in the future. Remember Felton was having a career year under D'Antoni as well (17pts 9 assists). There is a reason Lin was cut twice

The reason being that he was an unproven commodity coming up against players established and on the cusp of being all-stars (Lowry one example, now shipped out of that same team for a 1st round pick)

Felton had a career year yes, but what had he done before and since? Nothing. He did well because he ran an offense. Here the Knicks run an iso-offense through Melo. Unless miraculously he comes into pre-season on weight and with Novak like accuracy from beyond the arc, he has little value.

Lin can at least get to the basket, has the fans support and is realistically gonna get better. Felton is what he is and frankly, not good enough.

Lin and Felton played in the same offense and Felton put up great numbers . Yes, Felton hasn't done much since but how do we know Lin will improve? Don't get me wrong I'd love Lin back but he is basically unproven and not worth 45 million

fuck the knicks, as a lifelong New Yorker I've always hated them. The only reason I watched them last season was because Lin, novak, and even fields brought some excitement to the team and for once they seemed to have potential to be a good team. Now they brought back players that were on the Knicks back when I was in high school. How dumb is that? Maybe next week they will bring back Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell . Dont forget that major league asshole Dolan.

On the other hand the BROOKLYN Nets are starting to look real good. Glad to finally have a choice, especially being from Brooklyn myself.

I wouldnt match Lin... First of all the contract is backloaded, 15 mil in 3 years when the knicks will owe ~25, ~20, ~15 mil to melo, amare and chalndler respectively, so this will murder them luxury tax-wise.

More importantly, he has only played 25 games. Once teams actually start scouting him, realize that he is a turnover machine, force him to go left, etc etc, his stats will dramatically fall. Not to say he isnt a good player, but he is simply not worth the money.

Also, he is taking shots away from melo. That's not (necessarily) a bad thing, but when you have two stars in amare and melo who mistakenly think they are great, disrupting this "chemistry" (knick "chemistry") is not a good thing.

this...Knicks in a tough position. should have signed him earlier.

100% they should have not let the market dictate his value

Knicks love old people. Kidd, Camby and Kurt Thomas. ENOUGH SAID...

I was surprised to hear that Kurt Thomas is still around...

I wouldn't match from a basketball perspective (he's not going to sustain his level of LINSANE play). From a business perspective I would in order to generate sales. Depends on what perspective Dolan takes

As a Knick fan, I don't know if it is worth it. At first, it seemed that they should keep him, but he is largely unproven and hasn't played a full season. Many players on the team will not be happy if he comes back with that ridiculous contract. In year 3, he will be making more than Chandler and close to what LeBron makes. And what happens if he doesn't live up to the hype. Yes, the revenue Lin will bring in will be nice, but hey, this is NY we're talking about. It's not like they are starving for cash.

At this point, between Kidd and Felton, they will keep the team happy, avoid big luxury taxes, and still be able to contend with or without Lin.

Without getting to into it, Lin creates an enormous amount of value for both the Knicks and MSG. As long as they are able to justify the LT commitment costs (I see this as a no-brainer), he will be resigned.

Too expensive. But Jason Kidd, is that a joke? Good Luck Knicks fans you aren't beating the Nets.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Knicks front office again showing just how incredibly dumb they are.

Signing Lin is a no brainer; he's a fucking bargain for the first two years, and if he doesn't pan out, he has a fat expiring contract that is easily tradable the third year to teams that want his marketability (even if he's average he'll be big) or need to fill cap space.

If he improves (he shows solid upside), they hit the jackpot.

Knicks been idiots with spending money and their other deals (Amare uninsured, curry, marbury), why in the world are they deciding to cut the money now?

This.

Besides, they gotta understand that this it the NBA where there are pretty much ZERO asian players, yet is popular across Asia (China, Taiwan). This isnt the MLB, where Asians are somewhat common.

even if Lin does play Horribly for the first two years, the money from that attention worldwide more than makes up for it. He can be traded in the third year. Knicks were dumb to not have made the first moves.

I hate this argument soo much.

Every Lin bandwagoner shouts- "Who care's what he does, he will bring in madd dough. Just look at Yao Ming!!!". Do you even realize that Yao was an allstar for his entire career and that he was basically the Chinese GOAT before even coming over seas?

Simply being Asian or Asian American doesnt promise you that you will be rolling 1bn deep in fans. I mean, how many of you could tell me what team Yi Jianlian plays for? If Jlin craps out, youre still telling me that you are a fan of the team, ride or die? Honestly? African Americans dont simply root for Tiger Woods or Serena b/c they play traditionally white sports, they do so because they basically dominating the sport. Which is why you wouldnt see someone in my hood sporting a Donald Brashear jersey for the NHL...

The real question is whether or not he will be good. Pros- He is def. quick and can kill it in the pick-and- roll. Cons- No left, no defense, and average athlete. Hard things to teach at this point in his career (similar to Tebow's throwing motion). I think your knowlegable ball fan says that he becomes, at best, slightly better than average.
