Life is fragile, drugs aren’t worth it.

Be as careful as possible with drugs and better yet don’t take anything stronger than weed. Lost a family member and close friend to fake Xanax this year alone. An 18 year old excited to go to my alma mater and a marine home on leave. Had no idea either even did pills.

Fentanyl will kill you, stay safe everyone.

Always always test your shit. Test kits are like $20, and can be used for multiple tests. I don’t even do cocaine but I bought a test kit for my friends who partake, who might need it one day

Why do drugs to begin with?...

Because it’s fun and better than alcohol, duh

Hello... testing kits? Where can I find them? Asking for a friend obviously (I would never touch this stuff).

I would... but the truth is I can't sell my soul to myself... http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/blackknight.asp

Tbh sounds more like a lesson to buy quality drugs. Always test your product if you're buying them from some street peddler and not a reputable dealer.

My advice: avoid making drugs and booze a habit.  The only way to live is in total control of yourself, with no mind altering substances, anything else and you let life pass you by.

Hey! Leave us out of this.  I've done more ...substances... in gay clubs than anywhere else, and I assure you that most of the time there isn't a sober person in the house.

Our churches are bars.  I will leave it at that.

In all seriousness, statistically, smarter people are more likely to drink and do drugs. I suspect part of it is seeking new knowledge and experiences, and part of it, at least with alcohol, is letting yourself 'shut off' for a bit.  I will advise not to drink on weeknights from a general health standpoint, and to be very careful with the ahem untaxed stuff.  You may be just fine with the substance that you think you're taking in the dosage that you're taking it in, but particularly today there is no guarantee that what you bought is what you actually got.  That's one reason I stopped with that stuff years ago.  Fentanyl is one hell of a nightmare drug.  I've never encountered it in the wild, but when they switched my dying grandmother from morphine to it the change was night and day.  That was a highly controlled time release dose in a medical setting.  I can only imagine what an immediate uncontrolled dose in the wild could do.  (Also, despite that bogus police video, it is not absorbed through your skin)

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Oh my god. I'm a liberal and generally agree with your political views but you're one of THOSE pussies. Legitimately, the only people who use this argument seriously of avoiding "mind-altering" substances are social outcasts who never had any fun or friends in college and have never tried any of it.

source: I used to use this argument internally during high school when I justified not drinking when all my friends did. I look back at think about how much of a loser I was. I'd still argue at 16 or whatever, drinking is a lot worse than drinking at 20 in terms of brain development, but still.

Drinking isn’t inherently bad. If you’re 16 and drinking a little, mainly below .08 BAC, the body doesn’t treat alcohol as poison, only calories. Binge drinking at 16 could pose problems. But, having a glass of wine with dinner in Italy at 16 isn’t going to cause problems.

This has nothing to do with politics.  He is right about the general concept of how people should avoid alcohol and drugs to any extreme.  Not only are they mind altering but they affect your body in a bad way.  The effects my not be evident in your 20s but as you get older, if you continue these habits, your body may break down, which could result in health issues.   There is nothing wrong with having a few beers and most people do it be social, but if you take it to the next step and do it regularly, you risk getting longer term heath issues. Consuming large quantities of alcohol and drugs also ages the body prematurely.

This guy is just raw dogging life.

big follower of stoicism and have done amphetamines before. the ancient greeks and romans most certainly spiked wine with various substances, but amphetamines weren't invented until after the civil war. I'd argue that their focus on avoiding things that were unnatural is a higher priority than accomplishment. specifically, seneca never wrote about the benefits of concentrating for long periods of time, but instead references how one should prioritize an accounting of their own life than how much they're working.

from the shortness of life:

"You, I know, manage the accounts of the whole world as honestly as you would a stranger’s, as carefully as you would your own, as conscientiously as you would the state’s. You win love in an office in which it is difficult to avoid hatred; but nevertheless believe me, it is better to have knowledge of the ledger of one’s own life than of the corn-market."

"Consider how much of your time was taken up with a moneylender, how much with a mistress, how much with a patron, how much with a client, how much in wrangling with your wife, how much in punishing your slaves, how much in rushing about the city on social duties. Add the diseases which we have caused by our own acts, add, too, the time that has lain idle and unused; you will see that you have fewer years to your credit than you count."

I don't think you've necessarily misunderstood the philosophy, I just think you place greater value on hard work for prolonged periods than the ancients did, that's really more of a protestant ethic than an ancient ethic. the romans valued otium (look it up), the greeks philosophized during downtime and treasured that.

don't paint all drugs as harmful to the body. I'd argue that from a toxicity standpoint, living in a city and inhaling brake dust regularly is worse than the occasional experience with psilocybin or LSD. you're wise to not harm your body, but saying all drugs do harm is unscientific

I may be completely misinterpreting your links, but from my understanding, they merely show that alcohol is more dangerous than other drugs (which I agree with). However, the other drugs are still dangerous. Now obviously it also depends on how much you use; I'm sure taking LSD once or twice isn't anything terrible. Hell, I'm even well aware of the fact that many musicians and artists have created some of their best work while on psychedelics or with the use of a substance like marijuana.

Still, the main danger with these drugs is how easy is to get dependent on them. You can waste a lot of time and money, apart from the dangerous health effects. Props to those who can manage to use drugs while also leading healthy, active, successful lives, but I'm willing to bet that isn't the case for most drug users. But again, I want to reiterate that I completely agree that alcohol, although a large part of American culture, can actually be much more dangerous/lethal than even "hard" drugs.

Just don't do drugs maybe? lmfao all these comments, you retards act like if recreational drugs are something you NEED to do. Have never taken drugs and every day that passes I feel more and more secure about my decision. Only drink if it's with a buddy just hanging out casually or my girlfriend, have some self control for Christ's sake.

It's not about self control, it's about becoming a better version of yourself. Stimulants make you a beast able to work insane hours, psychedelics open your mind and develop your creativity and imagination, weed is much better than alcohol to relax and you can try different strains depending on the specific effects you're looking for. Hell, there's even a theory that monkeys evolved into humans by using hallucinogenic mushrooms - why do you think there's a family of shrooms called Golden Teacher?

OP, I'm sorry to hear what you're going through and opiod related deaths also ripped through my hometown. One guy we knew was an ivy educated doctor and it was pretty shocking since he was such a smart, charismatic guy. Even people that look like they're doing well on the surface can be fighting some bad depression and you'd never know it. I still can't process that one death and that happened like 5 yrs ago.

Honestly its just key not to ever get started on coke or benzos since they become "habits" quick. Sadly, coke is everywhere in social settings and I just need to stay tf away from that garbage.

Same here. I think for both of the people I know who've passed on, their habit became so routine that they trusted their source which unfortunately ended up costing them everything. The story of the marine is even sadder because his younger brother offed himself over a stupid teenage relationship. The marine turned to pills to cope and now his parents have no more living kids.

I am not a drug user and I recommend those close to me stay away from them. Nothing positive can come out of it.

I think I've only ever known one coke addict (dealer that went to rehab and fell off the face of the earth) but know a lot of guys who buy a bag of blow every weekend and its like a line item in their budget. It has become totally integrated with booze consumption and then they say alarming shit like "they can't go to the bar and talk to chicks without it". I choose not to say anything like that but instead reject it every time, literally leave the room if its in front of me, shit like that. My close friends are all adults who generally make good decisions but we're all victim to having too many drinks and slipping up.

NYC or Miami's late night energy kinda fosters that behavior and obviously its rampant in cities like that. Honestly all it took me was a couple come downs and hangovers to realize that shit is never worth it. However, I still take Adderall on big nights out and am working on that I promise.
