Limb lengthening surgery between banking and buyside job?
So I have the opportunity to take a few months off before I start my buyside job, and I’m considering limb lengthening surgery. I’m 5’7 for reference. I think afterwards I’d be 5’10 or 5’11. I am wondering if anyone here has done this before or has any experiences with it. I know this is one of the more dangerous surgeries out there.
The reasons I’m considering this for are both professional and personal. I feel like a child talking to most partners at every firm I’ve worked at, who are mostly 6 foot plus, I hate being surrounded by people who are taller than me at clubs and bars and not being able to see. Quite frankly this has nothing to do with attracting girls — I am happily in a committed relationship with someone who is shorter than me. I just hate feeling short in general.
Aren't results shotty asf? I I never saw anyone walk naturally after that surgery.
All of this risk for three inches? Most people in finance I met are way over six feet tall anyway, so you would still be on the shorter side.
Bro mr blackstone himself is 5’6. Just dont get too self conscious about it
He got mad huzz in school too.
Point is three inches in the vertical direction is not gonna do much. Now in the horizontal… that’s a different story
Do it, no way you make it to Head of any group at 5’7
Truly more compelling if you were 5’10 but walked like a crippled clown
Lifting weights will cure this insecurity. I'm around you're height myself and I am dead serious.
Okay bilbo baggins
What's Bilbo's bench?
If this isn't a troll post we have truly jumped the shark as a society.
Terrible idea. You are short and should embrace it. Honestly, If you already have a partner and a good job, who gives a fuck.
Limb lengthening surgery is one of the most idiotic operations a person can do for vanity reasons. If you do this, say goodbye to ever being remotely athletic again. Fucking with your leverages is an awful idea and can have hugely impactful consequences on how you move around. Wanna know what’s not attractive? Insecurity and hobbling around like an oaf because you wanted to be 3 inches taller. Get some heel lifts if you really want to be tall - problem solved.
Just get some heel lifts for your shoes.
So to be clear, you want to potentially cripple yourself for life with a sketchy surgery you can't get in a 1st world country (for good reason) in exchange for the couple of inches needed to reach the national AVERAGE, all while working a job that puts you in a chair at a desk 90%+ of the time and offers no discernable advantage to individual's based on height. Brilliant idea. 100% you should do it. No ragrets.
That’s my credo
Imagine getting the surgery and meeting a girl and marrying her and then her thinking she would have 5’11 or 6ft+ D1 babies only to pop out 5’5 to 5’7 chumps haha
I swear the longer I'm in this industry I'm convinced its full of the most insecure people in society
being short is the new tall, iron man is 5'7 and the most loved avenger
Something a short person would say.
Keep in mind also you’d have to buy all new pants haha
Never even thought of that, that's funny!
Henry Kravis is only 5'9", you'll be okay.
It's not worth literally crippling yourself over for the rest of your life. I also don't respect guys who are 6' any more than guys who are 5'7". Both are short in my book and I don't really consider dudes under 6'2" to be tall.
Hi there — really appreciate you sharing your thoughts so openly. As someone who works closely with patients undergoing limb lengthening surgery in India, I can tell you that you're definitely not alone in how you feel. Many people seek this procedure not because of insecurity or for dating, but for a personal sense of confidence and proportionality — especially in professional environments like finance or consulting, where presence can subtly affect perception.
You’re right that it’s a complex surgery and must be done with full awareness of the risks, time commitment, and rehab process. But when done at a reputable center with proper physiotherapy and patient support, outcomes can be life-changing — not just in height, but in overall confidence and body image. We’ve seen patients go from 5'7" to 5'10" and beyond with excellent functional recovery.

I'm 6'3" so I can't relate with your problem, but I had a friend who did this and he ended up regretting it. He actually got two sets of surgeries (he lengthened his femurs and his tibias) and is already over 5 years post-op and to this day still has trouble walking down stairs (walking up stairs is no problem), so he has to avoid them like the plague and always look for elevators or escalators. He used to enjoy playing pick-up basketball, but can't play anymore (his main sport now is swimming). One thing he mentioned that stayed with me: If he could go back, he would have just lengthened his femurs only and NOT tibias. Apparently, lengthening femurs only results in good outcomes for most people who do this, but tibias for whatever reason cause life-changing problems.
