Looking at gyms to sign up for NYC FT stint, should I be looking at gyms closer to work or closer to home?
In the US NYC, but I was curious. There's an Equinox right by work, but my apartment (20 min commute away) doesn't have a premium gym around it. For IB analysts, do people prefer a gym closer to work or home? And why? I would imagine it depends primarily on whether you're a pre-work workout guy or a post-work workout guy, but was hoping for some more color
I think carrying a gym bag to work is a pain, so probably would recommend a gym close to home. Optimally, you also have a gym in your building.
If I plan to maybe work out around 6 PM when it slows down a bit, it's probably smarter to just buy one close to work and buy a locker at the gym, right?
Does anyone have recommendations for alternatives to Equinox? Looking for something cheaper, even if it doesn't have all the fancy perks and amenities
What are your options when you search for gyms on Google maps around your place?

Go to the gym closest to you.. I love crunch cause it's affordable and everywhere. Huge plus when you need to take a shit in a random part of nyc, and surprise surprise there's a crunch right there just begging you to shit using their toilets.
I've had both - I used to actually have multiple memberships, like a psychopath, one close to my office and another that I could use at home. I also traveled and it came in handy when I went to see family, etc. or was in a random place (planet fitness in this case).
My preference would be to pick the broadest network where you might get both - if not, get closest to work and figure something out when you are at home.
Anyone into rock climbing and bouldering? Recommendations in Manhattan?
I would probably go as close to home as possible. My routine is usually finish work, head home for a minute and then hit the gym. The trouble with having one close to work is you have to haul everything with you.
