Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for finding a roommate and housing for your 2025 summer internship in NYC:

  1. Start Early: Many users recommend starting your search in late March or early April. Most leases for summer housing in NYC are finalized around May, so this gives you enough time to explore options and secure a place.

  2. Roommate Search: Reach out to fellow incoming summer analysts (SAs) at your firm or through LinkedIn. Networking with peers from your school or firm is a great way to find compatible roommates. Many users have found success by connecting with others in similar roles.

  3. Budget and Location: For a commute of less than 20 minutes to Hudson Yards, consider neighborhoods like Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea, or Midtown West. These areas are close to your office and have good subway access. If you're open to slightly longer commutes, Upper West Side (UES) or parts of Brooklyn (like Williamsburg) could also work.

  4. Housing Options:

    • Sublets: Subletting an apartment is a popular choice among interns. Platforms like Craigslist, Facebook housing groups, or even WSO threads can help you find sublets.
    • Shared Apartments: Sharing an apartment with other interns can significantly reduce costs. Look for listings where you can split rent with roommates.
    • Short-Term Rentals: Websites like Airbnb or specialized short-term rental platforms (e.g., Luxury Living Suites) can be useful, though they might be pricier.
  5. Timing: If possible, aim for a lease start date close to your internship start date (June 2). Some leases may start mid-month, so plan accordingly to avoid paying for unused time.

  6. NYU Dorms: While NYU dorms are an option, they are often expensive (around $2.4k/month) and may not be the most convenient for your location. Consider this only if other options don’t work out.

If you're looking for a roommate, posting on WSO forums or reaching out to peers in your network is a great way to connect. Good luck with your search!
