Lori Lightfoot (Chicago Mayor) to only grant interviews to POC

Articles on this all over the place (but not CNN apparently) but here's one:

More racism in the name of spotlighting diversity and inclusion...

Blatant racism by a big city mayor

Edit for clarity: this policy is only about one-on-one interviews related to Lightfoot's second anniversary as mayor - again though - does it really matter

In the Islamic world, we would never tolerate this kind of racial discrimination or insolent behavior from a dog like her. I wish she wore the niqab so we would not need to see her ugly misshapen face. She looks like she grew up next to the Springfield nuclear plant!

You're starting to grow on me.

Given the rate of black-on-black crime, it is technically more likely a POC would solve the problem for us in this instance. So I fully support this move to empower diverse interviewers, very woke and very cool! Now go hold a presser in the South Side.

I dated a girl from SA and her mother told me the story that got them to move to Europe. She was riding on a public bus in the early 2000s and saw an ad that was explaining to the local populations that raping virgins does not in fact cure HIV/AIDs. Having a daughter under 10 y/o at the time, she decided it was time to move. That country is filled with savages and led by fools.

I think the headline is a bit misleading since this only relates to her 2yr anniversary in office, not a “permanent” policy.

Regardless, many people (myself included) disagree with this policy. I think you can push for diversity in other ways that doesn’t harm those who have worked hard (I.e. journalists that don’t qualify) and there are ways to take a more logical (and measured) approach to this problem (and to actually trying to help solve it). I can understand trying to “make noise” with this as a way of drawing attention to the problem, but I don’t think it is part of the solution.

One final note, I think your blanket statement about “libs” being dropped on their heads can also be damaging. You can be liberal and disagree with this policy. Politics seem to be moving toward an “all or nothing” approach, and that is pretty scary. You can have views that are conservative and views that are liberal, ultimately you have to vote for a candidate but that doesn’t mean you have to 100% agree with everything they say (or everything their party says).

Correct - will edit the OP for clarity.  But does it really matter?

Nowhere in here did you call this racism and strongly denounce it.

I can understand trying to "make noise" with this as a way of drawing attention to the problem,

No.  This is racism.  Are you sure you're against this?

but I don't think it is part of the solution.

not sure how to read this sentence together - it's contradictory

Sure, on the surface this seems fair.  Until you take into account that in your entire post you failed to call this racism and even attempted to give it credibility at one point.  Related liberal policies -> mandating women on boards and affirmative action (read: sexist and racist liberal policies in the name of fighting sexism and racism).  Logically unsound policies that led to my blanket statement.  Haven't seen CNN come out strongly against this blatant racism yet either...?

I'm really not sure how this even warrants a big long post like this.  Call it racism and be done.

This is very confusing, I did denounce it (disagree with the policy), if you want me to say it that clearly, yes I disagree with this and do not think it is a good idea (or I denounce this, whatever makes you more comfortable). I also did not try to give it credibility, I said I understand that a view may be that “making noise” will lead to a focus on the problem, but I don’t think that will lead to a solution, and if you want me to say it clearly again, I don’t think it is the right approach.

As for racism, that word has become so charged and even the “official” definitions vary, so I try to be careful about this. I will say this is clearly discrimination based solely on race. If you are more comfortable calling that racism (and believe that is the right definition) then ok, racism, again I’m not agreeing with the policy.

I’m not sure why you are focused on CNN or say that my point is valid but that because I didn’t use the word racism it’s not. CNN, like many other outlets has a bias. You can be liberal and admit that, it’s unfortunate that we have so many biased news sources, but it’s the reality. You point to another liberal policy, again, there are “bad” (in my mind) liberal policies, that still doesn’t justify the blanket statement.

The blanket statements create a divide. They create a version of the world that is “A” or “B” with no room for in between. I think this is a big problem.

Interesting thought, but Chicago subsidizes the rest of Illinois by a mile, and Illinois is generally on the cusp on net federal contributions (relative to to other states that are net takers)... plenty of issues with Chicago and Chicago politics in particular, but I'm curious who you think is subsidizing them. The balance of payments definitely isn't flowing from downstate to Cook County
