Misinformation

Why is there is such an insane amount of blatantly wrong information on this forum in recent years. I have been a long time frequent and I have never seen so much misinformation regarding comp, hours, "Prestige", exits, group rankings, banks, PE fund returns, etc.

Because a lot of the comments are people that aren’t even in banking that just regurgitate the same bs they heard from their I’ll-informed peers

Makes sense, we should get a verification system going.

That would be both an enormous amount of work and arbitrary considering the amount of subjectivity and how fast things change. Right now we can collectively say PJT RSSG is one of the top groups, people use to say Greenhill RX was one of the top groups and it no longer is etc.

Personally, I'm still curious as a young professional in IB going onto PE (and didn't have a good grasp on firm struggles when I recruited since recruiting is so early nowadays). Understand certain firms' fundraising and other struggles have been more publicized than others e.g. AmSec, Onex etc. but always good to get a behind the scenes view on other PE firms who aren't in the limelight

Probably for the same reason your average Trump voter will believe and regurgitate the most insane, fantastical bullshit without bothering to check - because people will lie on the internet to make themselves feel better/more important/etc, and fact checking those people is very difficult, especially if it contradicts a deeply held belief.  So people lie, and few people bother to correct, either because it is too much work or because the lie reinforces something they want to believe anyway

Actually agree with your sentiment but not sure why you felt the need to bring Trump into this - politics is filled with slimy people who lie on both sides of the aisle

And this is why I bring Trump into it.  Because the degree to which it happens on the conservative side of the aisle is logarithmically higher than on the liberal side, and more pernicious to boot.  This lazy, dumb, "enlightened and cynical centrism" is why misinformation exists - because you refuse to spend a single second doing work to make a value judgement about what is true or not.  You just say "everyone lies" as if that makes you worldly or smart, and then go about your day.

Holy moly you literally can't not inject politics into a thread... do you edge yourself every time your bring up Trump or something? Good lord seek help.

Given that we're sitting on the edge of a global recession brought on because the average American voter can't discern a shaded truth from an outright malicious lie, I'd say this is a thread that deserves having politics brought into it.

I leave politics out of most threads I participate in.  You're just not very intelligent and thus can't even recognize your own observation bias.  But I'm glad you feel superior for having had the opportunity to accuse me of "edging" myself - have fun using that term in your professional life (which, since I'm guessing you're ~16, is in half a dozen years or so)!
