Mixed feelings about getting a major surgery as an analyst

Long story short, there's a chance I'll need to undergo a surgery sometime that'll leave me somewhat debilitated during the recovery period (at least a month). I think I'll still be able to work, but my ability to use a keyboard will be impaired to an extent. Have any of you gone through something like this or heard of anyone else going through a similar issue?

I'm conflicted because the surgery would be purely preventative. I'm perfectly healthy now and would hate to go through with an unnecessary surgery that would impact my job.

A biopsy is just a diagnostic procedure?

Take the finger it’s going to be on and tape it closed for a day. Reality here is pictures look gross but a month seems ridiculous. Test how efficient you are without the finger. I’ve admittedly not had one before but have sliced and diced myself pretty good doing other shit and the reality is your finger tip is gonna need to be isolated from movement.

unless I’m missing something and it’s all fingers or something, I have had to remove a nail entirely without medical help and it’s excruciating in the moment but you’d be surprised how fast the pain goes away

In the grand scheme of things this is just a tiny blip, don't worry too much about it. I would talk to HR, but if it will really impact your work and have a huge recovery, you may be able to plan to take medical leave and just get the month off, or at least the first 2-3 weeks (may be unpaid leave). Especially if you have flexibility and can schedule the surgery around a quiet time, like late summer or right before the holidays, this is probably doable.

If it's actually a nail biopsy, I messed up a finger once and was surprisingly efficient just holding that finger up (was in a brace) and typing without it. Give it a try like the one above suggests. A lot slower yeah, but certainly could type at like 70% capacity.

Don't skip an important surgery just for work either way
