However, I can provide a general perception of prestige based on factors like median income, property values, and reputation. Keep in mind that this is a rough approximation and can change over time. Why are there so many pricy towns on Long Island? I heard of Hamptons, but haven’t come across any of these other towns before, looks quite far from nyc

Do many senior folk commute from there?

What do you mean why? They're all close to the city and allow you to have a proper sized suburban house/mansion instead of living in an apartment. Most are an hour or less into the city.

Some seniors don't have to go to the office as often and it is nice having kids and a dog to run in the yard.

North Shore of LI has estates of the old super rich. Where the money dates back to Rockefeller’s original 19c partners. If you’re living out here, you’re probably not commuting. Or if you are, the meeting doesn’t start until you arrive. I always wonder how much money these people still have. Having a family member work for a living is probably no longer in anyone’s living memory.

I am rather surprised about the lack of Peapack/Far Hills/Gladstone (There's a realy cool triangle with Mendham and Bernardsville where the really big places are) NJ on this list.  I put myself through college fixing lawnsprinklers all across NJ, and into upstate, and those were some of the most impressive places I ever saw.  They were all also far enough out so you knew that the owners were saying "5 days in the office is for the hired help."

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

That’s astonishing to me. I used to think manhattan and the hamptens were the key places with really expensive homes around nyc; who would’ve thought NY, LI, CT and NJ all had so many nice areas
