Most Relevant Statistics Software?
Professor seems pretty open to using whatever. Any thoughts on which one would be the most relevant? (Options include but are not limited to SAS, STATA, SSPS, EViews, ... )
I have no prior experience with any of the above.
R is a good one as it's open source, very powerful and widely used
I've used STATA in all my Statistics and Econometrics classes.
minitab is very good SAS as well but you have to learn how to code it
I've only used STATA, believe that's pretty standard for Econ/Finance
STATA>SAS, if you need specific coding commands just use Python.
I've heard nothing but good about R, I'm sure they all have strengths and weaknesses. This thread actually reminded me I wanna learn it, found these surprisingly helpful (just played around with a couple last night) http://www.twotorials.com/
Statdisk perhaps, its free.
I like Stata a lot. And it's not an acronym. Statistical Data = Stata
R sucks but it is good if you don't want to spend any money and learn a bit about coding.
I've used Stata and SAS. Stata's a lot easier to use. Sourcing data from excel and exporting it is very straightforward. It's also great for time series data. Its built in help function is also really great.
SAS can handle much larger data sets, crashes less and seems to be more widely used in the industry though.
If you're just trying to get through the class, Stata is probably your best bet among the 2.

Just wondering who in here uses statistical software packages in their consulting work (not excel). I have experience with SAS, SPSS, JMP, and EMiner but definitely prefer SAS to all of them as far as daily use goes. I know firms like Deloitte, Accenture, and BAH are using these tools but I didn't know if MBB firms were as well.
.
JMP can do some pretty cool visualization stuff but for the most part, yeah it is garbage.
