New BP CEO

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/27/business/27dudl…

BP appoints an American as CEO. I'm not surprised by this (I doubt any of you are either). Think its possible their was some pressure on part of the Federal government in this one, or do you think it was BP independently looking to shape up its PR?

I know some people say "bad publicity is good publicity" ... uh, yeah not in BP's case. In fact, for BP's sake it should be "publicity is you are f*cking up"

The government can't intervene with the ousting of a company's CEO or their replacement (unless they've committed a crime - (Enron)).

However, I wouldn't be surprised if this is an image ploy for BP. They did spend $50 million on media advertisements during the oil spill. Therefore, it is possible they hired an American (one who "grew up in Hattiesburg, Miss., about 80 miles north of the gulf coast, and he spent summers in Gulfport and Biloxi") as a way of saying that they've hired a leader who could connect more with Americans and specifically the gulf coast residents.

On the news I'm hearing reports that BP may have been involved with the dealings of freeing the Lockabie bomber.
