NYC to SoCal move?

I just got back from an 11 day biz trip to the Irvine area where my Online Retail company is based and now im strongly considering a move to the Costa Mesa/Irvine/Newport area. It's not my first time there, but this trip really got me thinking.

What I really liked about the place is that quality of life there is way better for me. Everything is very convenient and people are chill. Real estate is also pretty reasonable. The nightlife is so-so but I don't even go out here that much.

I've lived in Brooklyn most of life, and quiet frankly I'm a bit tired of the stress of NYC living. Id like to live in some other places for a year or two before going for an MBA. I'm 27 now so It's probably my last chance to try out something new before settling down.

Has anyone else here moved out of NYC to Cali? I imagine it's the opposite for most people here as NYC has the most finance jobs, so it attracts people from Cali if anything.

I went to school in Orange County and the Irvine/Newport/Costa Mesa areas were absolutely beautiful, especially the beaches... and this is coming from somebody who is not a "beach person".

However, I would not recommend Orange County for someone who's trying to have fun before settling down. The OC is more of a place to settle down after travelling the world.

thanks for your response. I should add I'm looking to move with my gf, so I'm looking for an overall higher quality of life rather than just having a good time. I found the OC to be a compromise because my gf lived in Manhattan all her life but surprisingly said that she wouldnt mind living there as well.

Just curious but places would you recommend?

You are correct I checked that out and was surprised by how much higher they are than NYC taxes. The cost of welfare programs for all those state employees and illegals must be sky high.I think I may juat get residency at my moms Florida address as they have no state income taxes there.

I have seen both NYC and California (Fresno, LA and Bay area) - I personally prefer California. - weather/climate is very nice - people are "more relaxed" - generally life appears less stressful (if you forget the traffic nightmare for a moment)
