Picking your spouse carefully

It is without doubt that choosing the right life partner is incredibly important for a huge number of reasons. A girl/guy who does the bare minimum at work then goes home only to scroll instagram and watch tv isn't going to magically transform into the most motivated and hard-working mother/father example for their children to see.

So, what non-negotiable traits do you seek out in a spouse/life partner? (not just a gf/bf, but actual life partner) What traits does your current partner have that you admire and which ones don't you like? What are some deal breakers?

Additionally, are there any specific examples in when having a good spouse/bad spouse helped or hurt you either professionally or socially?

unless you live in the hood why tf would you care much about street smarts

Someone clearly doesn’t live in a major city then. How could you say that if you’re leaving midtown NYC after a 14 hour day and have to take the subway? If you’re saying you need next to 0 street smarts, then I can’t take you seriously.

Intellectually curious, always improving themselves, socially competent, and fully aligned on long-term goals. The biggest signal to me that a relationship is great is if spending time with your spouse reduces stress instead of adding to it. I don't think I've ever really had a major fight with her and we've been living together for a while now + glued together in an apt during COVID.

My long-term GF is the above which is perfect for me. She makes good money (~80k/$100k) a year, no debt, etc... and she's very logical. The plan we came up with is for her to focus on managing the money I've made, the home & kids once we do have kids. She realizes that there's no point to her working if I'm making 12x - 20x what she makes already and her time is more effective focusing on micro-managing cash on-hand.

I somewhat understand where u coming apart from the bit where you where talking about her quiting because she understands you make more. People don't just work for money,it's also about fulfillment and goals too

Clearly not. People on this site talk about potential spouses like they're fantasy football players.

"What's your draft strategy, bro? Housewife or CEO first round?"
