Point of Financial Stability in NYC

After a year in IB with a PE job lined up, I’m curious at what point financially did people feel “financially secure” to switch roles outside of IB / PE / HFs in NYC.

For context, have saved ~90% of bonus and ~30% of after-tax base, but hard to imagine sustaining a similar lifestyle in NYC without the high-paying job

“A little more”

When I made under $100k, cracking six figures felt like I’d at least feel stable if not comfortable. At $150k, I thought $250k seemed like the right long-term target. At $275k, $400k felt like I would finally be able to do the things I wanted to. Now I’m north of that (plus carry), and the number is ever so higher… good thing I like what I do
