Quarantine reading list

I wanted to start a reading list of say 30 books with the goal of finishing every book on the list by the end of lockdown. I am a fast and avid reader.

Can anyone contribute any book titles for my list - pref personal development- Financial markets - sports psychology focused.

Currently reading Jordan Peterson followed by Alchemy of Finance.

Thanks in advance

Cialdini's Influence is quite outdated tbh, and Carnegie's whole book is basically "don't be an asshole"

Most Helpful

the entire Incerto by Nassim Taleb, in order. fooled by randomness, black swan, antifragile, skin in the game

thinking, fast & slow by daniel kahneman

a man for all markets (ed thorp)

both of howard marks' books

security analysis 6th edition by graham & dodd

man's search for meaning by viktor frankl

meditations by marcus aurelius

fortune's formula by william poundstone

anything by jocko willink, but specifically extreme ownership. I've read a ton on leadership from business leaders, coaches, consultants, and jocko's advice works best for me. he writes with a good balance of stories, principles, applications, and specific tactics. too many leadership books are not applicable to lower level people (leading up chain of command is important) and are too broad.

Hey. Thanks for recommending Talebs work. Took a while to work through as so dense in content and prose, but well worth it! Really interesting view on trading and markets.

A Hero of Our Time - Lermontov Fathers and sons - Turgenev Byzantium - Norwich The Righteous Mind - Haidt Why Liberalism failed - Deneen

Stuff I am currently reading/listening to, recently read, or have queued up for near-term consumption (not sure if all of these are even worth recommending yet):

Twilight of the Idols

King, Warrior, Magician, Lover

The Sovereign Individual

Blitzscaling

This is Marketing

Dune

Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage

Debt: The First 5000 Years

Interesting selection of titles, can’t wait to get my teeth in them. Many thanks everyone for contributing and here below are some of mine if anyone feels inspired to start their own Lockdown 30 Challenge.

  1. As A Man Thinketh. James Allen
  2. The Fountainhead Ayn
  3. Atlas Shrugged Ayn Rand
  4. Mastery Robert Greene
  5. The Man Who Solved the Market- How Jim Simons launched the quant revolution. Gregory Zuckerman
  6. Inside the House of Money - Top Hedge Fund Traders Profiting in the Global Markets Steven Drobny
  7. More Money than God: Hedge Funds Sebastian Mallaby
  8. Liars Poker Michael Lewis
  9. Darkness by Design- The Hidden Power in Global Capital Markets -Walter Mattli
  10. The Memory Book Lorraine and Lucas. One of the most readily applicable skills I have learnt is memorisation - this short book covers mind palaces, memorising numbers, names, foreign languages etc. Life changing.

You may like Robert Greene's books "48 Laws of Power" and "33 Strategies of War". Shortened versions are available, and imo I like them better than "Mastery" which felt a bit redundant after reading the first two.

The Power Broker The Path to Power Means of Ascent Master of the Senate The Passage of Power

All by Robert Caro, changed my life. But you most likely won't be finishing all of these by the end of lockdown.

Mainly erotic thrillers and one on legislative development in low income post colonial countries and their variance in institutional strength p>

Great books if you love investing:

  • The Outsiders – William Thorndike (one of my favorites)

  • The Most Important Thing – Howard Marks (Market Cycles is also good)

  • Thinking Fast and Slow – Kahneman (game theory, decision-making)

  • Competition Demystified – GreenWald and Kahn (competitive moats)

  • The Little Book That Beats the Market – Greenblatt (a great value investing primer)

  • Intelligent Investor – Ben Graham (the value investing Bible, lauded by Buffett)

  • Big Debt Crises – Ray Dalio (Principles is also good)

  • Predators' Ball – Bruck (the history of Drexel, Wall Street glory days)

  • More Money Than God – Mallaby (the history of where today's Tiger Cubs came from)

  • All of Taleb's Books

  • All of Howard Marks' Memos
