I really enjoy reading the WSJ, Barrons, etc articles but tend to quickly forget what I’ve read a few hours after I read it. My team has Market meetings in the morning and I tend to forget what I read all week even though I’ve been reading all week. Any tips for better retention?

This post is actually pretty accurate in my mind. I've noticed this to be true for me too. If you're just reading this stuff to sound great in front of your seniors, then it's not really for interest. I've seen people who read the financial news daily and bring it up in converesation so many times throughout the day because they're so excited about it and want to discuss it with other people.
I think it might help to think about this when you're reading the articles or maybe thinking about the impact that these things will have in a broader way. This will help you remember these things more and make them more interesting for you. For example, Salesforce bought Tableau and most people wouldn't really care too much but I thought this was really cool because Salesforce was doubling down on its emphasis on data by incorporating a company that is known for providing better data analysis capabilities to other companies.
Honestly though, if you really don't care too much about this stuff and really just want to impress your seniors, then yeah just write some quick notes down in your phone on an interesting article you read that week. Then, you can reference it during your meeting.

i would recommend you start reading the articles to yourself out loud. not only will this help with your retention, it will also give you a fun new quirk that will make you the new hot topic at the office water cooler.
or, idk, try listening to your news. i've always found remembering aural information comes more easily to me.

I think you're already doing it right. The idea isn't to remember the actual news developments. The idea is to think about them as you're listening to them, and repeating that every day improves your general business/finance intuition.
You gotta follow news. An article usually isn't a one-time story, it's something which develops over a certain time period. If you're really interested then follow the news rather than trying to get anecdotal snippets and you'll retain it better
