Risky Cold-Emailing Template
Hello WSO,
I know that these things are subjective and yes I have used the search function on WSO, but I would like to get this community's expertise before I send out my cold-emails.
Hello Mr./Mrs.
My name is Name and I’m a 2nd-year student at the university, studying Finance and Economics. I came across your email through the [company name] team directory and I’m very interested in learning more about the practical side of [insert industry] as well as your experience at [company name]. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind grabbing a quick coffee as there’s only so much that can be learned through textbooks. I understand you are very busy and I’m more than willing to work around your schedule. I appreciate you taking the time to read my email and hope you can find a few minutes to talk, whether it be in person or over the phone.
Best Regards, Name [Phone Number] Email
I understand that it's a bit risky but I believe that this approach is quite unique. Let me know what you dislike/like and how to fine tune this into perfection.
What about selling yourself a little more, but not too much because at your stage you obviously would be still a little raw.
Apologies, but could you provide an example? My background in finance is quite non-existent but I have joined an equity research club on my campus. Besides that, I've done BIWS and read Rosenbaum.
Bad e-mail.
Mr./Mrs.
My name is Name and I'm a 2nd-year student at the university, studying Finance and Economics with an interest in pursuing career. I came across your email through the [company name] team directory.
Are you available this week or next to set up a brief coffee or phone chat to discuss more about your experience in [x industry]? I am happy to accomodate your schedule.
Best Regards, Name
There you go.
Thank you!. Would leaving the ending I posed be okay, or is it too long?
How is that risky?
First thoughts - way too long, way too specific about details nobody cares about (how you got their email in the directory), not direct enough.
Thank you. I'll just scrap that sentence then, is the rest okay?
