Shelling out for Studio Apartment in NYC?

NYC monkeys --- is it worth it to shell out the cash for a studio? I'm 25 and i've been living in williambsurg right now with roomates that i knew from college but I really wanna get my own place. I like my friends and all but in my mid 20s sharing an apartment with my degenerate ex fraternity brothers is just starting to seem less and less cool.

Looks like you can score a 350 sq ft studio in a shithole building in EV or LES rn for like 2 -2.5k and i'm honestly considering it. Good play or dumbass move?

Also - do you guys think covid will be a good opportunity to score some deals or will rent stay high? Rent increases in nyc have going at such a rapid rate in the past 5 years or so it seems like it has to correct at some point (I mean go on streeteasy at look at the price history for any apartment - WTF no way this is pacing with income)

dude, covid may come back for a second time and you're trying to buy? Please be economical and sound here..............

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

bump interested in hearing what incoming analysts are looking at. On one hand prices have gone down as people vacate the city, while on the other, it’s harder to find roommate friends when their finance jobs are getting pulled or postponed

Do you understand how small 350sqft is? I'm not being facetious but as someone who would rather have more space and roommates than live in a cramped space alone, I'd stay with friends if you aren't willing to stretch more for a studio.

Also remember that the 350sqft won't all be living space, a lot of it will be taken up by appliances, counters, closets etc.

i lived in a 350 sqft studio in the west village...and i was miserable...its like living in a prison cell. Much better off finding a bigger place with roommates that aren't home very much (traveling consultants, etc..)

It IS a prison cell, especially now -- you're paying for your own solitary confinement. I have a friend living in a rent-controlled, ~300 sq ft studio in a prime location. He's ready to pack his bags and move in the middle of a race riot and global pandemic, he's that desperate for space (I actually think he did it this weekend).

I live in a ~400 sq ft studio, and it's weird being able to walk from my front door to the other side of my "cell" in 5-10 steps, depending on my stride. Everything I want is an arms length away; I don't really even need to get out of bed. It's fine if you're just using the place to sleep in normal times, but I definitely wouldn't drop big bucks on it right now. You can probably find a 1BR within your range if you look closely.
