Short kings in finance?

Gentlemen - as I'm recruiting for private equity, I'm noticing that most people I speak to are vertically challenged 5'6-5'10. Moreover, the more senior they are, the shorter they get...

Is this a real thing - what explains this? Easier to fit in airplanes? Lower latency between brain and hands (better at excel)? Less distracted by NYC dating scene?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, height should not be a barrier to success in the finance industry. Here are some key points from previous WSO threads:

  • Confidence Crisis: One user mentioned that height concerns might stem from a crisis of confidence. It's important to drop this insecurity to succeed in finance. (Xiiixiii, Senior Gorilla)
  • Personal Experience: Another user shared their personal experience, stating they are 5'6" and work successfully in Private Wealth Management. (Xiiixiii, Senior Gorilla)
  • Friendliness Over Napoleon Complex: Emphasizing friendliness rather than developing a Napoleon complex can help individuals excel regardless of their height. (Certified Investment Advisor Professional)

In summary, height does not determine one's ability to succeed in finance. Confidence, skills, and interpersonal abilities are far more critical factors.
