Sleep Deprivation and Constant Yawning

Anyone else yawn frequently (sometimes every 5 mins or so) when sleep deprived or having woken up that morning halfway through a sleep cycle? Been like this since middle school. Don't necessarily feel tired (or maybe I've grown so used to fatigue), but the yawning won't stop and gets pretty distracting. What are your tips/experiences? Thoughts on a sleep test at the doctor's? I have friends who get as much sleep but never seen them yawn, so wondering if it's a sleep quality issue.

And of course nothing beats a good night's sleep, but that's that...

Bro, I feel you, I got the exact same problem of yawning in extraordinary amounts plus my nose gets runny whenever I am tired (don´t ask me why). I do have a measure against it, though. Maybe you´ve heard of Wim Hof, the Iceman. He teaches a very powerful breathing technique from Nepal which basically supercharges your metabolism - that´s not bullshit, I learned and practiced it myself and it´s extremely powerful. You have to learn it, though, maybe start with Chi Kung first. And whenever I am doing it, 30secs after, my blood runs hot again and I feel alert. Only disadvantage is it looks ridiculous (because you force the air out of your mouth under high pressure, which can make a farting sound). But do look into it.

@CRE you´re a pro and I respect you immensely, but too much caffeine is not only not helpful, it can actually decrease your alertness. I made the same mistake over and over again of drinking coffee before lunch and it always, without fail, fucked me up when the food coma kicked in. Don´t get me wrong, caffeine is king for people like us, but it can and will fuck you up (especially if you´re drinking black coffee and are prone to an upset stomach like me).

If you're yawning and struggling to wake up, chances are you haven't drank "too much" caffeine.

Ever tried sleeping more at night?

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.

You can try: exercising more, don't eat before going to sleep, shut the TV off before going to sleep, For me, switching from TV to radio prior to going to sleep has helped.

For a quick boost, you can try peppermint. If I need to drive late at night, I try to bring some peppermint breath savers with me.
