Just gotta cut the caffeine down - you build tolerance and then it has no more effect. Put yourself on a hard cap of 400mg/day, ideally less. Replace it with seltzers or just plain water instead.

I have one cold brew in the AM and cut it after that; nothing after 12pm. The first few days you'll be dragging so pick a week you're not getting murdered at work, but I sleep better, less anxiety, etc

When I know I have an all nighter coming I'll strategically have one coffee around 1pm, you are way more sensitive to it if you generally don't drink it often

i just imagine my vp finding a double space in the cim. wakes me right the fuck up

Something that has helped me cut back is not letting myself consume caffeine until I'm actually at my desk working. It can be addicting to consume coffee / caffeine as soon as you wake up to snap you out of it, but the problem is by time you get ready and get to work, you're probably already past the feel good part and go to another cup pretty quickly to get yourself into the work groove. Then you're already 200 - 300mg of caffeine deep and just getting started so your come downs are quicker and harsher leading you to another 1 - 2 more in the next few hours.  It's a hard habit to break, but has helped me cut back a lot.

As others have said, when you're drinking that much caffeine your tolerance gets so heavy and you stop feeling the buzz / good effect you're looking for but your body is still impacted by the negatives (poor sleep quality, increased heart rate, sluggish come down). It's a bit of hell to cut back and reset your tolerance but worth it. I've got mine down to a cup off coffee plus cup of tea on an average day and feel more energy throughout the day than when I was hitting 400mg+ a day. I also notice that when I travel for work I usually end up consuming a lot more caffeine and after just a few days my tolerance is shot again and I start to feel more worn down.
