Had this talk with my SO recently. Essentially just understanding that while in a good relationship both people's effort averages out to 50/50, there will be times when it's 70/30 or even 90/10. People who work in finance often work long hours and deal with stressful situations. There will be times when they come home late and are extremely exhausted. They may have to cancel dates and advance plans. They may be "off" emotionally and may not be able to give you the attention you want. If you can accept that these things will happen and in those time your partner just needs your support, you will be good to go. Like if they work late and are exhausted, let them go straight to bed. If they had to cancel a date because of work, don't make them feel guilty and instead try to figure out together how to still spend time together. If they're stressed at work and are not giving you attention, try to support them because they will absolutely remember it and give it back to you once the rough patch is over.

Of course this should not give your partner the right to treat you like trash and coast in the relationship while you put in all the effort. If that happens, maybe it's time to reevaluate the relationship. But you should take time to talk honestly and understand when they may have a rougher time at work (like if they're on a particularly tough deal), while also explaining to them what you need to feel happy in your relationship and decide how they can give that to you. People in finance aren't inhuman sociopaths (well most aren't), they're just people with a higher workload who sometimes need the support of their partner to get through the day.

Well, at least you’re honest.
