Tattoos in Banking

Everyone has thought about the fact of getting a tattoo (big or small) at some point in their life. Some can be small, hidden and unnoticeable but others can be huge.

What is the whole sentiment about having one in the office, is there a stigma around it, like you are instantly machine gun kelly or some shit if you have one? Do you guys know anyone in the office with one, maybe your MD has tats of all his ex-wives names on his ass, you never know...

Definitely still a stigma around tattoos in most finance/corporate environments. Obviously, I haven't been around for decades to witness the change, but I feel it loosening slowly, lagging behind the pop culture trends.

Personally, I have quite a few tattoos, thanks to my carefree years in the Navy. They are all covered by normal office wear so it doesn't come up during a normal day. That being said, if we have an office outing, I generally wear long sleeves and pants because I don't want them detracting from the knowledgeable hard-worker façade I've built up. Same goes for client events. Only place where it gets tricky that I've experienced is on the golf course. Nobody wants to be that guy wearing long sleeves in the middle of July. Luckily, it seems to make me easier to talk with and relatable to clients on the golf course.

In the end, you do you. It's possible to separate your professional self from your rebellious inner tainted youth.

I have a hand tat and a pinkie ring

That's nothing. I've got a neck tat and three tears.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
