Unable to appreciate the small things in life.
So I recently saw a girl for a months, and when I was with her I noticed how she appreciated the small things. Going to small stores and caffes and trying little desserts, stopping to enjoy birds chirping or street performer, driving somewhere to look at a nice view. I feel like I forgot about all that stuff, so much of my life is just a blur of waking up and working. Made me kind of nostalgic. Tbh in general I feel like I'm unable to enjoy much, often feel either stressed or angry. Man being a kid used to be great.
Hey there, it sounds like you're going through a tough time. It's not uncommon to feel this way, especially when life gets busy and stressful. It's important to remember that it's okay to slow down and take time for yourself. One way to start appreciating the small things again is to practice mindfulness. This involves being fully present in the moment and paying attention to your surroundings. It could be as simple as taking a few minutes each day to sit quietly and focus on your breathing, or taking a walk and really noticing the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Another technique that might help is negative visualization, which is mentioned in the WSO content. This involves imagining losing the things you have, which can help you appreciate them more. Also, practicing daily gratitude can help shift your focus from what's wrong in your life to what's good. You could start a gratitude journal where you write down three things you're grateful for each day. Remember, it's okay to seek help if you're feeling overwhelmed. There are many resources available, including mental health professionals who can provide guidance and support. And finally, don't forget to have some fun! It's important to make time for activities you enjoy. Whether it's trying out a new cafe, listening to a street performer, or just taking in a beautiful view, these moments of joy can really make a difference. Hang in there, and remember, it's okay to take things slow and enjoy the journey.

Do a little exercise before going to bed every night. Think of all the things you are grateful for and be cognizant of them. Do this every night and you will gradually begin to appreciate all the good things you have.
Just for you I MS'd the bot above. May you ascend above the bot once again Isaiah

Try to get outside more. Stake out an hour on a Sunday morning at like 6am, don’t bring your phone, and just walk until you see five animals. Meditate in nature. We are not designed to be inside all the time.
Your original post hints at this, but getting a gf or wife who is not overly career or status oriented definitely helps with enjoying the small things in life, things you may not notice on your own.
Try meditation
Just listen to some ASMR or relaxing music vids while you’re taking the train back from work
Sometimes I struggle with this as well. In the midst of the busy and hectic workweek, it's crucial to take a step back and soak in the simple, beautiful moments that often go unnoticed. So, imagine this: grab a locally brewed artisanal coffee from that quaint café on the corner, sit in your favorite corner booth; savor the aroma. Take a walk in the park, revel in the rustle of leaves, and listen to the music of the city streets—the chatter, the sirens, the wind blowing. It's the little things that connect us to the soul of the cities in which we reside. Find and embrace the magic in everyday life that we often miss.
I had a conversation with an older family friend and the wisdom they shared kind of reshaped my perspective. They told me that life isn’t really about the big moments or flashy achievements. It's about cherishing the smaller things, the everyday moments that slip by if we’re not mindful.
They said something like “Consider each day as a canvas, and the small moments as the intricate details that make the masterpiece of your life." It could be as simple as the warmth of the sun on your face, a spontaneous smile exchanged with a stranger, or the aroma of your morning coffee. It’s important to pause and appreciate these small moments and allowing them to help us practice gratitude.
We should also value relationships and the simple, genuine connections we make with people. A heartfelt conversation, a shared laugh, even a moment of shared silence, can be profound if we let ourselves to truly be present.
It’s sometimes important to slow down and let life unveil itself. It’s in the more quiet and unassuming moments that we often find the most joy and meaning.
