I’m a dual degree BS in physics and BA in Econ, just had a great experience in IB and will be returning full time next year. I think it probably depends a lot on your quantitative skills. Depending on where you are in your studies, you’ll find out around sophomore or junior year whether or not you’re actually excellent at math or if you’re a pretender who can slide by. I found out I’m the latter, and although I think I could probably be ok in a quant HF position, I chose IB because I don’t think I’d excel in a quant role like some very talented STEM kids would. That being said, simply getting through QM and EM will greatly over-prepare you for the intellectual side of IB. There’s simply not that much difficult math, if any, in IB roles. At the end of the day both are great career paths and pay well right out of school, so it’s tough to go wrong here if you have the option.
