Vaping Problem in IB?
I have a vaping problem. I have this need to take puffs from my ezzy/puff bars whenever I'm studying and it really helps me focus and concentrate better. If I don't hit it, I get pretty irritated and fiend for nicotine. I'm just worried about going into an investment bank and not being able to hit it while I'm working. Should I quit asap? Does anyone else have this problem? I've tried quitting many times but it's not easy. Cold Turkeying the stuff actually drives me nuts. Need advice.
Just buy Zyn.
Quiting is always going to pay dividends in the long run. I would always pay piper earlier rather than later. Additionally, being able to focus will be so much better and being able to remove distractions always be good.
My MD and other directors as well used to straight up juul in the office. We had an open concept office so you would just see smoke coming out of a cubicle...quite hilarious.
Summer interns would join and they would be shocked..should've seen the look on their faces.
Try nicotine oral sprays. Can get at Walmart, online depending on where you are based, eBay, etc. Generally each spray is 1 mg. While I don't have a specific problem with Nicotine, I've had to taper off numerous drugs that are significantly more addictive. I would advise you to do your due diligence on tapering methods (and seek medical advice.... general disclaimer.... but IMO not needed for simply getting off of vaping).
Also, keep in mind that the reason why vaping helps you focus is because nicotine is a stimulant. That is what I use nicotine oral spray for. Gives you about 1-2 hours of focus per ~1 spray if your tolerance is low.
To me, it has been helpful to compartmentalize exactly what is a withdrawal symptom vs. what is a drug's intended effects / side effects. For example... I don't know your situation but take for instance person A thinks, on a scale of 1-10, he is a level 7 addict. But he mistakenly attributes missing out on a drug's intended effects (while tapering) as withdrawal symptoms, bringing up his anxiety and obsession... now his quality of life is closer to a level 9 addict. Instead, he could compartmentalize what is an effect he simply desires but could get from natural remedies (ie. sleep, exercise, depression/anxiety management) versus what he needs to actually look out for while designing a tapering plan.
I am in this same predicament. I have been crushing Stig pods for a while now (6% SaltNic) and finished my last one on Sunday and told myself I would not be buying anymore.
That decision is out of addiction, but also health. Nicotine really fucks you up if you continually use it, especially when you really don't need it. I was a heavy tobacco chewer so that's why I switched to the vapes, but that shit made my addiction even worse. Sure, I wasn't chewing tobacco and getting that buzz, but I was getting an even stronger buzz from the Stig pods and in turn, more addiction.
Do your future self a favor and quit now. Do whatever you have to, some tactics work better for some than others. I am a fan of the cold turkey tactic as I am 4 days in. I do have a tin of General Snuss in case I really get that nicotine urge, but as each day goes on, it gets easier. The first 1-3 days of quitting nicotine are always the hardest, remember that.
vaping is a problem in society, not just IB. it gives you far too concentrated an amount of nicotine, it's a new technology so we just don't know what negative affects could come as a result.
as a former tobacco user of ~15y, kick the habit now. you'll be glad you did. I was a dip guy, weaned myself off first with using pouches (hard to do long cut in the office), then went to snus, then less snus, then gone altogether. my theory was I can't go cold turkey because my body will reject the lack of nicotine, but if I go slow, my body will get adjusted to lower and lower levels of nicotine over time and then the ultimate cold turkey won't be hard.
if I get hammered or if someone breaks out a can at a golf boondoggle I may partake, but haven't in years and I don't miss it.
I would like to quit. Shit really is a mental struggle.

Just take a fat rip in front of the MD to assert dominance.
quit the nicotene...use the patch...its the easiest...vaping is evil...never touch the stuff
At my firm, more than half of the analyst class juuls their head off. Most of them are straight up addicts. We found out one of the interns entering the summer class in a few months started his own vaping businesss so we will definitely make fun of him for htat.
You won't believe how many of them are juuling 24/7 in the office as soon as the MD passes by our desks.
Personally, i've slowly been working my way down. I decided to quit when the quarantine started. At that point, I was ripping my Juul ~70 times a day (I downloaded a counter app to keep track), and the occasional Zyn. Now, I've been juuling ~10 times a day with the goal to only make it a morning buzz before quitting entirely. It is definitely not the easiest thing, but once I started counting, I found it pretty easy to go from 70--> 40 and then slowly work my way down from there. I personally think going cold turkey sucks, and it wouldn’t have worked for me. I think slowly weaning yourself off will be the easiest, and will hopefully make the withdrawals (if there are any) a lot more manageable.
read Allen Carr’s book on how to quit. it works
