What happened to chivalry?

Is chivalry dead? Recently had a coffee chat with a female banker at lower MM and naturally attempted to pay for the beverages. This led to a barrage and spew of anger and was called a "misogynist fuck" and "toxically masculine hambeast". She then stormed out and therefore ended my recruiting hopes for this bank. Is chivalry dead? Was just trying to be a good little chimp.

Had a similar situation when I was looking to make the move over to the buy side a few months back. Was meeting with a female associate at a MF (think APO/KKR/BX) and held open the door for her when we were walking into the coffee shop. She looked at me with disgust and said "We don't hire simps, start looking for a seat at a LMM fund. You'll fit in great with all of the pussies over there that act judiciously with leverage" before storming off. Was I in the wrong? Really was just trying to be nice and return the favor

1. You should first propose if you can pay for her.

2. Paying for a women is generally seen more as sexual/relationship interest. Keeping 50/50 is more distant/professional, so don't mix those. Otherwise, if you still want to be a gentleman see point 1

Holy fuck have a beer or two buddy. I bet you haven't seen the light of day in ages. Pussies like you make me want to punch my monitor screen in my office at the LMM fund that I work at, where I get 50bps of carry and solid cash compensation.

also, management-wise, take an advice from me: What I said can perfectly be put on paper and accepted by your women colleagues, what you said is clearly a potential lawsuit ;)

Have to figure out how to play different situations.

Just as you most likely talk different with your friends than you do at work, you have to treat coworkers different than you would in real life. For exampl, at a bar you might tell a lady you think she's pretty, but you can't do that at work.

North star should be treat everyone at work the same. In the OPs example, if it was a male banker I'd still try to pay, its the right thing to do. In reality, people will always complain. People always say they wanted to be treated like everyone else, than they throw it back at the person/company when they are. For example, woman say they want to be treated like everyone else, than come bonus season and they think they are less because they are "a woman" and don't take the time to evaluation they just performed poorly.

100% troll post.  No female would call you a misogynistic fuck for offering to pay and if she does, she is a fucking wackadoodle.

The modern iterations of feminism (namely the 2nd-4th waves) are the complete opposite and acts as counters to the concept of chivalry. If they rise then the other must demonstrably fall.

For what it's worth OP, if that's how the female banker reacted then there's no loss here. Working with creatures like that would be miserable.

I met this bank teller in NYC at HSBC. She could see my account balances. One time I went in to deposit a check and she asked me out. She was pretty cute. She said she wanted to go to this fancy Italian place that had great pizza. I said oh ok - sure I'll take you out. She said, "no this one is on me." So we went to eat Italian and I insisted on paying, but she refused and said she had to get the check. I said "ok" whatever you want. Then we parted ways that night and I never heard from her again.

Maybe she saw your bank balance and realized she needed to pay?

haha - she actually asked me my salary and she said “I wish I made that kind of money” and then asked me out… she was cute

This actually seems pretty rational!  Personally I think a good rule of thumb is that whoever does the asking out, should pick up the check (or at least make the determination of paying vs splitting)
