Moved. Specifically, moved halfway across the country. Figured that shit would be expensive, but my wife and I are too old for the whole 'throw your shit in a U-Haul' game anymore, so we got it done the right way - got a nice relocation package and could justify the cost. I'm not sure what I expected price-wise, it was simultaneously cheaper and more expensive than I thought it'd be, if that makes sense. I do not regret it in the slightest bit, best moving experience I've ever had.

Side tangent: if you have the financial ability to comfortably do so, I'm telling you people - use professionals to move your shit! Maybe this is obvious, but I'm a frugal fuck and always kind of thought yeah, I can do this in my single U-Haul trailer, no biggie. Total game changer for the upgrade, we literally did not do a thing besides give directions to people and wrap up some special stuff. We packed an overnight bag of things each, hopped in my wife's car (mine is getting shipped, should be here today), and just drove. They left two days before us, and by the time we walked into our new place half of the furniture & whatnot was already inside. Again, like - maybe this is common sense adulting, but I was blown away.

OK - tangent over. Just a good experience and they got a good tip! Least I could do.

Good luck with that. One of the benefits of moving in the military is that it is full service door to door anywhere in the world.

All-in, including the necessary expense taxes, additional fees due to special items, the large one-off segment for my car, and lastly the in-house tip brought the grand total just shy of $12,500. Typing that number out on paper hurts me, but we were both stressed out with a lot of things relocation-wise and not having to worry about packing things into boxes was key.

For specifics, a large part of the price was due to certain conditions. I believe our base quote was roughly $7,200 - this is just the general flat fee we received after having someone assess the size of our former and current home, the quality and quantity of materials being shipped, the total distance traveled, and the time it would take end-to-end. For context, we had a 2bd, albeit larger apartment with a LOT of high-quality furniture, appliances, tech products, and more - there was an upgraded service charge for using a large number of wood crates in lieu of cardboard boxes while wrapping certain items with cushions 2-3x thicker than the normal width. A general sense of 'fragility' was applied to everything, which I'll happily pay a premium for.

Next, there's the pack/unpack option - a standard rate would have them provide minimal help (if any) putting stuff into boxes, the only assistance being moving larger objects from the home to truck and vice versa. We did the top package - a consultant came to our space and we worked with her on what items would be packed by them and how, with a full detailed plan on when they would come into our house, the logistics and materials used to pack certain things, and a general timeline sense with any important notes to be added. These people were fucking EXCELLENT at their job - they were friendly, motivated, quick, and above everything... GENTLE! My wife and I weren't there the entire time to 'supervise', but we didn't need to. They knew what they needed to do. They were at our place around 7a, and on the road to TX by 3p. Wildly professional and downright pleasurable to be around, really great crew. If anybody is in the DC area and needs the top folks, I'll happily PM or comment the company.

Lastly, there's the one-off fees: we opted to take my wife's car together, as we wanted to split the driving and I didn't feel like taking my small-ass M2 ALL the way down... even though I probably should have. A truck came and picked up my car, which was an extension of the same moving company. This alone cost roughly $2,800 - a high price for a single item, but they wrapped and padded my car in certain spots, so tight that a pothole wouldn't do shit. Totally worth.

Taxes were the standard rate for my (former) home county, roughly $500 or so. They brought a crew of four movers and a dedicated driver, with another technician and driver for my car. Six total people, end-to-end three days. They worked hard as hell, they were friendly, and they got a GOOD tip. They received a $2,500 cash tip (fuck taxes!) for their work. I was told that's a little on the high side - again, they earned it & my relocation package wasn't even a quarter drained at this point.

Sorry about the wall of text, but figured I'd just go ahead and give the full breakdown. Fantastic experience.

How was it

It was amazing! It's really close to where I live too, so convenient. They were PEI Oysters, we got 12. I had a 9oz Filet (medium) with Truffled Wild Mushroom Demi and some Malbec Argentinian wine. I've probably been there 4 times and they are amazing every time. People dress up to go there, so I just wore a black v neck and a blue pinstripe blazer.

I’ve never found a good lobster roll, although I’ve never been up north

I was in the Boston area for a wedding and the first one I had was really good. I also had one in Maine with my dad a couple years ago on a road trip that was incredible. I agree with you generally, you'd need a lot of lobster for it to be worth it, so it's just better to crack into one like a crab.

There's so many good spots in Boston man, gotta go to the source.
