What's your dream career?

Finished watching season 3 of Drive to Survive yesterday and I am absolutely hooked on F1 racing. Have always loved to drive, but now find myself contemplating how difficult it would be to move to Europe, shmooze bored millionaires, and have them fund my non-existent racing career. Current salaries in the sport range from $500k-$60mil... $60mil a year to drive a rocket ship on wheels in some of the coolest places in the world? What a dream. Hell, $500k to drive a rocket ship on wheels is a done deal for me - I'd do it for half that.

If you could have any career in the world, what would it be?

- owning cannabis + cbd company
- owning a large fitness facility
- buying and selling companies
- tournament poker player
- owning art gallery in East Village

My uncle owns a bunch of gyms in Manhattan. NGL outside of COVID, it's def an awesome career that can net someone 7 figures comp if they can run it intelligently.

I wonder what the profit-margins would be on running like a rock-climbing franchise, or something semi-fun like that

I like the rock climbing above the pool setups:

I want to own a large facility outside of LA that has a 400m track, weight room, pool, 1mi track (for bikes and running), spin stadium, and pizza place as well as a 24/7 food buffet. Also would like mats and heavy bags for Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing / yoga. I'd probably charge piecemeal memberships and then also a price for membership to all facilities. The price for this would be astronomical. I have voiced this proposition to the triathlon community and have had a good response, but still a long way away from securing funding.

Bro I got into F1 like a year ago and it's an awesome sport, too bad it's not as big in the US as it is in other parts of the world. My dream career (I guess it's a career) would be to own an F1 team. It's a hassle but it would be so cool to build a championship team from the ground up.

If I can't do that, then I want to be the first real estate developer to own so much land that I can develop and build my own country. Imagine what Donald Bren did but even bigger. Also developing human settlements on Mars would be badass.

hassle = sounds expensive

Dream career for me would be orchestral conductor. Not even anything to do with the money, but money could still be great— conductors of small regional orchestras make 6 figures, conductors of major orchestras make 7. I showed promise in it but ultimately my confidence held me back while I was in college. I’m honestly happy with where I’m at now but every once in awhile I think about what could have been.

Dream career for me would be orchestral conductor.

Sounds like you should consider this program:

https://www.juilliard.edu/music/orchestral-conducting

"Headed by internationally renowned conductor David Robertson, music director of the St. Louis Symphony, the graduate-level program has trained many of today's most prominent orchestral and opera conductors.

As a conducting student, you will have regular opportunities to rehearse with the Conductors' Lab Orchestra, as well as access to New York Philharmonic rehearsals, concerts, and guest conductors. Public performances of the Lab Orchestra take place biannually in Alice Tully Hall as part of the Wednesdays at One series."

Idk how successful they are except for the one super bowl dub, but they crossed my mind when typing this. They would be considered. Teams I'd rather not own include the Rams, Chargers, Texans, Cowboys, Bucs, and Jags. Also no to GB but that's because I like how they are community owned.

Nightman Cometh

Owning an NFL team, preferably one that is both successful and has a passionate fanbase, like the Patriots, Ravens, Steelers, or Saints.

This would be badass - imagine making lots of money on it too like Mark Cuban made with the Mavericks.

The NBA would be the second league I'd consider because of how hype basketball is. I don't even really like basketball anymore (I find it too star-driven and the some of the stars too fucking insufferable), but cant deny that Cubes is a badass owner.

Pretty much what I do now except I'd own by own shop and run it on my terms for HNW money....sigh

Otherwise would be dope to be the ambassador to a country like China / India / etc

Last one would be a top astronomer at NASA but I think you'd got to have a stupidly high IQ to do this at a high level. Pretty much any of the hard sciences (physics / chem / math) you've just got to be one of the top 50-100 in the world or otherwise you're not contributing much

My mentor in college was US Ambassador to the UK. I think it is the most prestigious post. He fixed the Northern / Southern Ireland conflict.

Damn, very jealous. Sounds like a place where things actually matter vs. being sleepy. Wonder how you get those types of jobs, I feel like some guys just work their way up the State department and others just get appointments despite being from the outside world

Really my dream is just to have some THC, drink, and play poker. Currently, this is a possibility.

Where's your favorite venue to play

I play on America’s Cardroom and Carbon Poker. I go on Carbon just for the laughs.

As far as live poker, I play at Cherokee, NC and Best Bet Jacksonville, FL. I have also played at Hollywood, MO, Beau Rivage, MS, Borgata, NJ, and Crown Casino Melbourne, Australia.

Honestly I would love to be a part owner of a variety of businesses that I'm passionate about. For example:

1. In the future when ICE cars are just a niche thing, I want to be like the Gordon Murray of the world, still financing and building really visceral fun cars for people who want the full experience of driving a CAR, not just an appliance like a tesla.

2. Part owner of an agave farm/tequila distillery. Something good like Suerte or Fortaleza.

3. I would love to run a company like Pasquale Rotella's except for I would bring interesting and good music, not the over commercialized brogressive house that runs rampant at popular festivals in the USA.

Although passionate about my current career path, in the future would be neat to:

- own an NFL team -- of the current group of female NFL owners, I don't think any are self-made, so being the first self-made female NFL team majority owner would feel pretty satisfying

- operate / own (even if at a minority level) a whiskey brand / distillery

- have an established enough name / experience behind me that I could write occasional pieces for the likes of the WSJ, etc.
