Based on the most helpful WSO content, the ideal location for your group would be somewhere with convenient subway access to both Tribeca and Midtown/Midtown East. Here are some recommendations:

  1. Union Square/Flatiron/Chelsea:

    • These neighborhoods are centrally located, offering easy subway access to both Tribeca (via the 1, 2, 3 trains) and Midtown/Midtown East (via the N, Q, R, W, 4, 5, 6 trains).
    • Commutes to both areas would be relatively short and efficient.
  2. West Village:

    • A quieter, upscale neighborhood with good subway connectivity to Tribeca (1 train) and Midtown (A, C, E, or 1, 2, 3 trains).
    • It’s a great balance of proximity and lifestyle.
  3. Gramercy/NoMad:

    • These areas are slightly north of Union Square but still provide excellent access to Midtown and Tribeca.
    • The 6 train can take you to Midtown East, while other lines like the N, Q, R, W can connect you to Tribeca.
  4. Lower East Side/East Village:

    • These neighborhoods are vibrant and offer decent subway access to both Tribeca (via the F or J/Z trains) and Midtown East (via the 6 train).
    • They’re also popular among young professionals.
  5. Financial District (FiDi):

    • While closer to Tribeca, FiDi offers good subway options (2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, E trains) to Midtown and Midtown East.
    • This could be a good compromise if the Tribeca worker prioritizes a shorter commute.

Key Considerations:

  • Subway Proximity: Ensure your apartment is near major subway lines that connect to both Tribeca and Midtown/Midtown East.
  • Budget: Neighborhoods like West Village and Gramercy can be pricier, so factor in your rent budget.
  • Lifestyle: Choose a neighborhood that aligns with your preferences for nightlife, dining, and overall vibe.

For the shortest commutes, Union Square or Flatiron might be your best bet, as they are equidistant and well-connected to all your work locations.

"Midtown" is a pretty broad area, so tough to tell. Can you be more specific?

This is tough bc you are all in different parts of the city. I think your best bet would be east village/union square area. If you're close to the union square station, you can easily get to midtown east with the 4/5/6 and Tribeca with the N/Q/R/W/4/5/6.  N/Q/R/W should be able to get to most of midtown (i.e. times square, penn station area, the streets directly below central park).

If by 'midtown' you are referring to somewhere on the west side (Hudson Yards), then this is a different story...

My advice is to get a map, put a pin on all of your offices, and see which train lines you have in common. You can even do it automatically with a website like this: https://commutetimemap.com/map

IMO the key to a good commute is minimizing the # of transfers. I'd rather have a  30 min commute with just 1 train than 25 mins having to transfer between trains.
