Why does New Jersey SUCK so much?

I was in the God-forsaken state of NEW JERSEY for way longer than I wanted to be this weekend. How is this state such a SHITHOLE? CHRIS CHRISTIE is the governor, there's so much TRAFFIC, and its ILLEGAL to pump your own gas. Does it have any REDEEMING VALUES besides having ABANDONED CASINOS that could be turned into SEX DUNGEONS?

Taxes are ridiculously high. Highest in the country, hence the gas is cheap. North Jersey is overcrowded and expensive. Especially their public transportation and the rent. An average apartment in Newark is ~$1400-1500. Which is absolutely ridiculous because Newark is a shit hole. Go out further into the west like Caldwell, which will be cheaper and nicer than Essex and Hudson... but good luck trying to get into the City if you work there. All in all, it's crowded in housing, traffic, and public transportation and it's cost of living is high for low to medium standard of living. The ONLY good thing I can say is that it's close to the city, if you can't afford to live there.

Help me out here. Why is a shithole jammed packed with people in a country where people can easily move? I, too, am a detractor of the state of New Jersey, but usually crappy places to live lose residents.

Pretty sure a lot of those people work in NY so they sardine can in Newark for the easy commute, thus driving up the cost of everything. None of the benefits of NY with only a slight decrease in the cost of living, lmao.

Well think about it... Bronx isn't the ideal place to live (No Offense) and the subway to Bronx is dirty and trashy. Brooklyn is even more expensive and probably even more crowded... You can live in Connecticut, but CT isn't cheap and the train there takes about an hour. I don't think there's really an outlet besides NJ. I live near the exchange place and the prices here are crazy. Literally the same as NYC, but more space. So I moved to Hoboken... The thing I HATE by North Jersey (essex and hudson county) is either the areas are somewhat ghetto or nice and the nice areas are crazy expensive. Nothing in the middle.

Never has a post on WSO resonated with me so much. New Jersey is truly the suck of all sucks.

Cheer up, Bateman. What's the matter? No shiatsu this morning?

ahh yess the Jersey boy you are

I listened to your podcast - it was good. You seem like a smart guy.

Haha go NJ! I went to the high school in the town next over from The Situation. Thanks. I would think you are a smart person yourself, nice name. Is that posuk in your name referring to Moshiach who will hopefully come soon? Can be a bit confusing. I’m thinking it’s a prophecy about the 3rd temple times but not so sure. Happy to hear your thoughts if you want to share

NJ is an acquired taste. The arm pit of America. A person can’t really have arms without an armpit, but an armpit def needs to be taken care of cleaned regularly to avoid stinking. NJ also has its good stuff kinda like an armpit

If the only thing you can think of about a state is one university, that's pretty telling in and of itself.

I mentioned Princeton but I was not even referring to the University.  I was referring to the town of Princeton but now that you mention it, NJ has one of the best Universities in the world in Princeton.  It has other good schools as well like Rutgers, especially for engineering or the Honors college which is hard to get into and the College of New Jersey, which has improved quite a bit.  On top of that people who live in NJ often sometimes go to school in NY, which has Columbia, NYU, Binghamton and Zicklin (Baruch) which has become very competitive due to the low cost.

A little clip of NJ/LI/NYC culture for all those who are interested in becoming a little more worldly:
