Will You Rush the Biggest Frat on the Street?

I daily cast my doubts on the ability of Wall Street to survive in its current form.

There are my misgivings about the economic stability of the TBTF business model and the daily screeching of monkeys hoping for greener pastures.

But then I read about something like this, and I am reminded of the ultimate magnet Wall Street points at the metal heads of monkeys and how it reels them in like salmon.

The Allure of Prestige

We all like money and ultimately need it to survive, but as many a Stocke Exchange Board Member and Financial Regulator alike, will tell you...

It is not just about the money, it is about sitting at the table...and ultimately, about having a say .

Kappa Beta Phi

What a great name for the Alphas of Wall Street...insert snicker, right about here.

So tell me guys, does any of you have the balls, the audacity and the utter contempt for your own existence to actually make it to this level?

Can you see yourself hitting these heights in Investment Banking?

I have still yet to meet a single person on WSO who has told me that they would like to run an IB division...

It seems like you all have other plans...

Well, here's the chance for you proud lifers to take a stand and show us some of that Wall Street pride that the politicians and populists seem to have sequestered over the last 30 months or so...

Do you think there will even be a Wall Street skull and bones come 2030 or will Lloyd, Jimmy and Josh be taking their surf and turf through a swirly straw at a luxury nursing facility upstate?

I do.

Emphasis on the seems. I have multiple real-life friends who frequent WSO who want to do exactly this.

One of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wingtip passing over.

Is this real? I find it almost funny that bankers would need to formalize their upper-level network in this fashion. It's not even like they share a belief they're passionate about (apart from daylight robbery). If real (and I'm still skeptical it is), it's the height of pretentiousness. It's like Brin, Zuckerberg, Jobs, and Gates getting together to form Pi Beta Tau...lol.

You do realize this is Phi Beta Kappa reversed, right? This just makes it all the more funnier.

Thought this was funny from the wiki article, "Kappa Beta Phi's key has images of a hand, a beer stein, champagne tumbler and five stars. The stars represent Hennessy cognac and the hand represents the drinker." "While Phi Beta Kappa's key includes a hand pointing at three stars, which symbolize that society's principles of morality, friendship and learning,"

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Nice one!

As to the point of the OP - while I feel like and continue to feel like I want to open my own shop one day... I think that being the head of a major Wall Street bank is a pretty sweet job. Not only do you make a lot of money (albeit maybe less than if you started your own successful fund), but you also become hugely famous and influential. It's not for everyone, but for some it's pretty darn cool. Jamie Dimon is the typical example of someone who was made to be a wall street CEO.... hanging out with presidents, billionaires, treasurers, etc.... he's half politician half banker. And that's cool to me --- because it's a more transparent way of getting rich of diplomatic and political ability than being an actual politician.
