WSO Weekly Wrap-Up (9/19-9/25)
In case you missed them, here're some of last week's most popular topics:
HEY you OCR little f*cks
Post By @KREBSCYCLEOMG"
I volunteered to do OCR because I thought it'd be a nice break but now, I'd rather be hunched over my desk than be dealing with these borderline terrifying besuited assailants.
Grades Matter. Period.
Post By @TorontoMonkey1328"
Unlike stocks, for people, past behaviour is often a good proxy for future behaviour. I'm very hesitant to provide a recommendation for someone who has weak grades. Would love to hear any other opinions.
"If You Have Savings In Your 20s, You’re Doing Something Wrong"
Post By @cubsfanatic8228"
Most of this, I feel, is propaganda for people with liberal arts degrees that are baristas at Starbucks. You can dream about that romantic "I don't need money to live" kind of life. However in reality, it's mostly a bunch of horseshit excuses for not reaching your full potential.
Trailer for The Big Short
Post By @Edmundo Braverman"
Coming out just in time for bonus season. Christian Bale as Mike Burry?
55x price hike on "Essential Medication" - Smart move?
Post By @Monkey in Acquisitions"
Turing Pharmaceuticals, led by former hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli, upped the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 per pill after acquiring the marketing rights. Was it a smart business move or did he go too far? Backlash left aside, would sales (in $) really increase dramatically, given that patients/doctors may start looking for alternative treatment?
Why do banks give out a meal allowance?
Post By @Zweihander"
It's not like anyone working in an IB doesn't have the money to feed themselves every day, and it's not like removing the meal allowance is going to reduce people's willingness to work in the industry. So why do banks bear a cost they don't need to?
Trading really dying?
Post By @dontbugme"
I know this topic has been hit time and time again. However, I feel after every recession, there's always tons of people saying sell-side trading is dying just to see another great time. Yes, regulation has tightened and the money has definitely decreased, but it seems to me that sell-side banks always find a way out. Thoughts anyone?
You're given $100,000 to invest in 1 sector/asset class as of September 2015. How would you invest?
Post By @StreetofBulls"
I was asked this question in an interview. Curious to see how some of you monkeys would tackle the question.
Is Volkswagen a good value buy?
Post By @Industry84"
The penalty from the emissions scandal could be as high as $18B. However, I expect a company such as Volkswagen, which does in excess of $200B per year in sales, will eventually bounce back from this event. Does this news present a good buying opportunity?
