Your Best Runs?

Sometimes, things just seem to go your way and then, much less than sometimes, momentum builds up. What are some of those times in your life when you went on a 'run'? Whether it was a mix of luck and hard work finally materializing in an opportunity or just a fun and productive two months, everybody has their streaks.

One not-so-serious example is from my senior year of high school; it was a three week stretch in the late fall. It started with getting admitted into my number one college in early November, playing the game of my life against our biggest rivals and winning to go to state in football for the first time in like 15 years the week after, and then shooting the buck of a lifetime on deer opener the next morning. These were some unforgettable memories and experiences, at least at the time.

It's a period of my life I like to look back on when things feel tough and the end seems to be nowhere in sight. Like 50 said, "joy wouldn't feel so good if it wasn't for pain."

Since 2020 I’ve been on a good run but with a couple bumps here and there. Moved to my dream city, but made less than a public school teacher my first job out of college. Met my dream girl (first girl I dated for real), scored a new job that paid double and opened up many exit opportunities. Got serious with the lady and somehow scored my dream job which many consider the exit opportunity itself in CRE. Fingers crossed I can continue the momentum 🤞

Oh man, not so many actually, my life has been mostly some good events followed immediately by some hard knock-backs. God has a sense of humor, after all. My best run was probably when I started working in a small boutique while finishing my thesis. Ripped through that sucker like tissue paper with top grades and got an offer to join my current team (for Bundesliga fans, that was a change comparable to one from Regionalliga West to Schalke 04 or a similar BL2 club). Also had my beautiful, delightfully thick Latina girlfriend back then. Yeah, life was good then...

...and the Truth shall set you free

Had a terrible run followed by a good run.

June - December 2022: worked at a sweatshop, lived in San Francisco, lost that job, spent all my money breaking my lease and moving, crypto losses

March 2023 - now: moved to NYC, got a job in PE, making more money with better hours, in the green on my PA

Small victories add up. January was pretty much my lowest point in life. Now I’m in a spot that I would have envied back in college. Can’t complain. I also can’t overstate how much better New York is than San Francisco…

My best actual run was in a 50mi trail race. I only got 47.6mi and ran out of food and water and light (iPhone flashlight) and was shivering in a very bad way in desperate need of electrolytes and food and called in SOS for the race. Overall, it was one of the best experiences of my life. Definitely pushed my limits.
