Both are top notch shops and are regarded very highly. Really smart investors. CD&R is pretty value oriented whereas I think of Advent as a lot growthier (they do buyout deals but more focused on buying really fast growing companies). CD&R seems more formal / a bit more "old school" than Advent. If you want NYC, I'd probably lean CD&R. If you're flexible on location, I would lean Advent. Advent actually has a NYC office but Boston is their main US hub. Personally, I like Advent's investment approach more although CD&R definitely knows what they're doing. If you're lucky enough to get offers from both firms, I'd primarily focus on location and culture.
