Asian PE
I’m a current soph interested in interview for Summer 2024 internships at top Asian PE firms. I’m not seeing much on WSO on this topic. Does anyone have thoughts on where I should be applying or networking strategies?

Career Resources
MBK?
Depends on which country you are targetting, although recruiting scene is generally different vs. what it is in the US (less opportunities for straight-out-of-undergraduates, irregular hiring, etc.).
Mostly targeting HK, Mainland, and Taiwan
Lol I’d be careful with Taiwan
Want to see more post on this. I’m based in HK/mainland and also confused about what PE recruits in the region
A couple of top shops in Asia - by no means a comprehensive list and in no particular order:
Indonesia: Northstar
Greater China: DCP, Hillhouse, WP, Primavera, Hony, Centurion, FountainVest, HKMA (SWF)
Korea: KIC (SWF), IMM, Hahn, KKR
Singapore: GIC (SWF), Temasek (SWF)
Pan-Asia: Affinity Equity, MBK, PAG
Separate list for more pure play growth/VC players. I have included SWF above as they have significant pools of capital for direct PE, growth, secondaries, and co-invest.
Please feel free to add more names. Note: most offer internships to my knowledge, but not sure of conversion to full time.
This is not accurate lol. Hony is not a top shop
Care to elaborate as to why? It’s hard to extrapolate based on that comment.
Any shops you would add/remove otherwise? To be fair, I’ve overlapped with most on my list except for Centurion, Hony, and Hahn.
Just go look at their Fund VIII performance. It's atrocious. Would also remove Fountainvest from your list and Hahn is a very solid name in Korean buyout
For the love of God, can you please at least spell Centurium correctly? That's the 2nd time now. We're not trying to sell folks on Amex lounges.
Yeah...Hony definitely not a top shop.
Any insight on Affinity? They are a big fund, but haven't been that active in China.
How is PAG, FountainVest, and Primavera. Would be interested in how they are perceived. I’m an associate at a UMM NYC and interested in going to Asia for a few years. How do they compare to KKR/APO/BX in the region? What are the US equivalents of PAG/FountainVest/etc? Clearlake, New Mountain?
Barings PE Asia (now part of EQT) is pretty good
Forgot to add them under Pan-Asia. Great shop.
Any of the mega funds in Mumbai take interns?
do they work with headhunters? where do people start recruiting for them? appreciate any insight!
From Headcunters or internal referrals mainly according to what I have seen
This is personal experience, but I had my current firm (in the list above) as a client when I was in banking, worked my ass off both in and outside office, and got internal referrals.
appreciate the insight! when you say internal referral, do you mean you were referred by employees at your target firm or people at your old firm vouched for u for recruiting?
