Chaos is a ladder, my friend. Odds are you’ll do all the right things, grind your ass off, and still be told it’s not enough until you’re ultimately shown the door after 2 years (3 if you’re lucky).
The PE associate role is the only job I’ve ever had where it’s felt like you go above and beyond to get everything done, only to be told that’s the bare minimum expectation.
