Best places to find information on PE / private funds in general
Hi there, I am working with a small investment firm that allocates investment funds. Funds of funds is a very new business for them and my focus day to day. I have a decent network among private equity / asset management firms - not amazing, but definitely not bad either. I speak to these guys and see different funds.
However, I would love to see a lot more funds so I can better compare the universe of opportunities. It is easy to find new asset managers looking to raise money, but until you meet with them and talk to them, you are not sure exactly which funds they have (and which they are currently fundraising for). Most of the time, it turns out to just not be a match even before DD.
My investors have a very, very specific mandate, so it would be great to just be able to see the key stats (like yield vs. IRR focused, geographic focus, open or closed-ended, high-level strategy) of a ton of funds at once and then try to build relationships with those doing something of interest to my firm. This way I also make sure I do not miss anything good.
I know there is no database, but any tips (besides just talking to people, which I already do) for quickly finding what private funds are even out there fundraising right now would be greatly appreciated!
No budget allocated to this in 2024 unfortunately, so looking for public or free sources/methods.
Thanks for your help!
Get a Preqin subscription. Or borrow one from a friend. You can get them to give you a week long free trial if needed.
Thanks. I understand Prequin subscriptions are well >USD 10k per asset class per year right? So across asset classes, it would add up. I have not been allocated a budget for this yet, since it is a new business line.
Unfortunately also do not know anyone willing to share their log-in credentials long-term. Anyway to recreate something similar from a different public source, or do they have more limited free data sets? The only thing I can find is 1 month free trials for some of the data on AWS, but this is not a long-term solution.
